The Xbox team continues to listen to your feedback and focus on creating experiences with you at the center. This month, we’re excited to announce a few more updates as we continue to refine the experience and add new features. Our latest update includes text-to-speech and text-to-speech group chat, official posts of your favorite games in the Xbox mobile app, the ability to rearrange groups in the guide, and more.

Group discussion: Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech

At Team Xbox, we believe that gaming should be inclusive, accessible and accessible to everyone. This includes making it easy for players to play and communicate with each other. Group Chat, used by players around the world to talk to their friends while playing, now supports speech-to-text and text-to-speech conversion. Each of these features can be used to assist players who are deaf or hard of hearing and / or who cannot or choose not to speak.

  • Speech-to-Text: By enabling speech-to-text transcription, players can convert all words spoken by group members into text that displays in an adjustable overlay above the game.
  • Text to speak: By activating text-to-speech, players can type in the group’s text chat and have it read in a synthetic voice to the rest of the group (with a choice of several voices per language).

Text-to-speech and text-to-speech functionality can be enabled in Settings under Access facility > Game and chat transcript. When you are in a group, you can also access this screen under Options > Configure ease of access settings.

Official posts in the Xbox Mobile app

The Xbox app on Android and iOS keeps you connected to your gaming community. With the app, gamers can easily share their game clips and screenshots, chat with friends, track their achievements and even play games from their console with remote playback. During this month you will start to see the official posts of your favorite games. Posts are visible from the home page of the app and you can like, share or comment on them. Stay tuned for more updates to the Xbox mobile app in the near future.

Rearrange groups in the guide

Groups allow you to create lists in the guide for quick access to your favorite games and apps. Now, a new “Move groups” button is integrated into the “My games and applications” screen of the guide, allowing you to customize the order of your groups. To use it, open the guide, select My games and apps, then select Move groups to reorganize your groups.

Review and approve your family’s cross-network read requests

Family settings on Xbox let you control how people interact with games in your family. We continue to innovate Family Settings on Xbox to be as unique as families are today and to meet their needs. To that end, we’ve made it easy on your console to review and approve your children’s requests to play with people on other gaming platforms and Windows PCs. Children who use Xbox child accounts as part of a family group can now request approval from their parents or guardians to play games like Minecraft with others playing on other gaming services. Parents can approve or deny their children’s request using the Xbox Family Settings app on Android or iOS or directly from the console.
