How to speed up game downloads on the Xbox app for Windows

The Xbox app on Windows is where you can buy, manage, and play PC games. It’s also the app that lets you access Game Pass, which gives you access to over a hundred games through a monthly subscription.

While there are plenty of amazing games at your fingertips on the Xbox app, it’s not uncommon to experience slow download speeds. No matter how fast your connection is, you may find yourself tapping your watch while waiting for a game to finish downloading.

To help you out, we’ve put together all the troubleshooting steps you need to follow to speed up downloads on the Xbox app for Windows. Take each in turn and your speed should pick up.

1. Restart the Xbox app

It’s the most basic tip ever, but it’s still worth it: restart the Xbox app. You’d be surprised how often a good old “turn it off and turn it back on” solves the problem.

By default, closing the Xbox app just minimizes it to your status bar. To close it completely, right click the Xbox icon in your status bar and click To leave.

You should also try restarting your entire computer. This will clear the system cache, close any programs that won’t open on startup, and give the Xbox app a cleaner slate.

2. Clear your network

It’s important to check that slow Xbox app downloads aren’t a sign of a larger network issue. Visit a website like Fast.com to check your internet speed. If the result is far from what you pay for, you may need to contact your ISP for assistance.

USE VIDEO OF THE DAY

You can try to fix this yourself. An easy step is to reset your router. Simply pull the plug, wait a minute, then plug it back in.

Also, stop all other activity on your network. Don’t download anything to your browser or stream on Netflix while using the Xbox app; your bandwidth is split between all tasks and you want to focus all resources on downloading the game.

Keep in mind that games on the Xbox app are unlikely to download at the maximum speed provided by your ISP. Indeed, you are at the mercy of various factors such as your distance from Microsoft’s servers and their congestion.

3. Disable the Xbox Insider Program

Joining the Xbox Insider Program gives you early access to Xbox app features and bug fixes. However, this can sometimes cause instability, including impacting your download speeds.

If you’re a member of the Xbox Insider program, you should quit it and see if that improves your speeds. Don’t worry, you can always re-subscribe later if you find it doesn’t make a difference.

To unsubscribe from the Xbox Insider Program:

xbox insider app leave a preview
  1. In the Xbox app, click Your username on the top corner left.
  2. To select Xbox Insider Program.
  3. From the left menu, select Previews.
  4. Under Joinedselect Windows Games.
  5. Click on Manage.
  6. Click on Exit preview.
  7. To confirm the action, click Carry on.
  8. Restart the Xbox app.

4. Do not allow downloads from other PCs

Windows includes a setting called Delivery Optimization, which is designed to improve the speed and reliability of Windows updates, Microsoft Store app updates, and Xbox app game downloads.

As part of this, there is a feature that not only allows you to grab download files from Microsoft, but also from other PCs that are downloading the same files. The download is split into multiple parts, with each part taken from the fastest and most reliable download source.

While the intentions behind the delivery optimization are sound, some users report that it actually slows down game downloads on the Xbox app. As such, it’s worth disabling it to experiment:

windows delivery optimization
  1. hurry Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. To select Update and security.
  3. From the left menu, select Delivery Optimization.
  4. Drag Allow downloads from other PCs for Disabled.

Surprisingly, other users report that enabling this feature improves their download speeds. So if this is already disabled on your system, try dragging At instead and select PC on my local network and PC on the Internet.

5. Remove Bandwidth Limits

By default, Windows dynamically optimizes your bandwidth when downloading games from the Xbox app. You can also limit the amount of bandwidth used by Windows, which is useful if you have a data throttling plan.

Some users found that Windows incorrectly throttled their bandwidth, even though their settings suggested that this shouldn’t happen. To overcome this:

Windows Advanced Options Download Settings
  1. hurry Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. To select Update and security.
  3. From the left menu, select Delivery Optimization.
  4. Click on Advanced options.
  5. To select Percentage of measured bandwidth (measured against update source).
  6. Check both boxes and set the sliders to 100%.

This specifically tells Windows not to apply any limits; For some reason some users are experiencing a bug where the slider percentages are applied even without the option selected.

The Microsoft Store isn’t faster

Some online tips claim that you can get faster download speeds through the Microsoft Store. However, this is misleading. In reality, both apps download at the same speed. Indeed, one displays the speed in megabits, the other in megabytes. So while the numbers may look different, the actual download speed is the same.

If you have the latest version of the Microsoft Store, you will not encounter this problem. Indeed, the Microsoft Store now directs you to the Xbox application to complete your purchase and start the download.

Spend less time downloading and more time playing

It’s incredibly frustrating when you want to play a new game and find yourself sitting there for hours twiddling your thumbs while the game downloads. Don’t let that happen to you. Hopefully the tips above fixed the problem and you can download through the Xbox app at the correct speed.

Remember, the Xbox app is your gateway to Xbox Game Pass. If you can play a few games a month, that’s amazing savings and more cost effective than buying the games outright.

The Xbox app on Windows 11 and Windows 10 gets a new design

Xbox-Preview-App-Windows

Windows 10 and Windows 11 users can start using a new version of the Xbox app for the operating system starting today. Well, at least those in the Xbox Insider program, as the app is currently only available in preview. Remember that this is the Xbox/game specific program which is separate from Windows Inside.

The Xbox app for Windows is updated to version 2203.1000.21.0, adding a new navigation system. Specifically, a new non-collapsible sidebar covering the main Xbox sections: Game Pass, Cloud Gaming, My Library, Community, and Store.

The current app that all Windows 11 and 10 users see has these menu items next to the search bar at the top of the app screen.

Advertising

In the new system, the main sections have installed games available and a Game Pass button (another one) below the main items. Yes, Microsoft is really starting to push Game Pass. While the button in the main section will open Game Pass, the smaller secondary option shows available PC Game Pass titles.

More Changes

Elsewhere, the design/navigation tweaks also extend to the search field, which is now permanent. In other words, it no longer collapses, meaning you can use the search function on any page in the Xbox app.

Finally for the main changes in version 2203.1000.21.0, Microsoft put the notification and profile icons on the left instead of the rights. Click the profile icon to open options for support, settings, feedback, home, and more.

The new version of the Xbox app is available to test on Windows 10 and Windows 11. You can grab it now by heading to the Microsoft Store and downloading the Xbox Insider Hub.

Tip of the day: Windows lets you use Cortana to translate phrases, words, or phrases, with the results automatically read to you. This makes it especially useful for group scenarios, but you can also type if you’re unsure of the pronunciation. Cortana’s translation includes an impressive 40 languages and uses machine learning to deliver natural results in many cases. Check out our comprehensive guide to learn how to use Cortana for quick translations.

The Xbox app for Windows 11 has received an interesting update

The PC Game Pass app for Windows 10 and 11 does the job, but it’s not great. For chat and social systems, it’s significantly slower than competing services like Discord and Battle.net, while simultaneously offering fewer features. It also doesn’t give you access to game clips or screenshots from your console, unlike the older Windows 8-based Xbox Companion app. What the Xbox app makes up for in its usability areas is is the PC Game Pass library, which is rich in content and high in value.

For those running the Xbox Insider app on Windows 10 or 11, the app received a pretty substantial update today which not only updated the navigation significantly but also added some new features. that measure game performance.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the app appears to crash after only a few dozen seconds of use, but this is a beta version of the app and will likely be fixed before it is released. reaches the general public.

The app navigation is now on the left side, with installed games in the sidebar. Personally, I think it looks a lot nicer and makes a lot more sense than its previous incarnation, but ultimately it’s the features and tools that the Xbox app currently lacks.

The Xbox app is most often compared to Valve’s mature Steam software, which you think is a bit unfair given Steam’s age and long development cycle. Yet they still compete to some degree. The Xbox app is much more restrictive than Steam when it comes to modding games and accessing user-generated content, and as mentioned, is generally much slower in important key areas. I often wonder if Microsoft will drop this app if it manages to complete the Activision Blizzard acquisition and throw its weight behind the faster and more popular Battle.net app instead for PC Game Pass, but I guess that is only speculative at this time.

Either way, it’s encouraging to see Microsoft continue to grow the Xbox corner of its Windows operation, and it will be interesting to see where the Xbox app goes in the coming year. Hopefully it will be ready for prime time once Starfield launches later this year.

Xbox app on Windows rolling out new game install/modify features

The Microsoft Store (formerly known as Windows Store) received a lot of criticism during the Windows 10 era because it lacked some of the features that were common in other app installers and game launchers. Many of these complaints also concerned the Xbox app, an additional component used for access to Xbox Game Pass and other features. Microsoft has completely revamped the Store for Windows 11, and now the company is rolling out some useful improvements for the Store and the Xbox PC app.

Microsoft is currently rolling out three important features for the Xbox app on PC – you can now choose where your games are installed, you can access files to “select games” and more games can be edited. These are all features that have always been available for games and apps installed outside of the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app. You can also move game files without redownloading and reinstalling them, which usually requires digging into folders with popular gaming platforms like Steam, in order for Microsoft to get brownie points there.

These features were already available to Xbox Insiders, but starting last Tuesday, Microsoft is rolling them out to everyone. Now that the Xbox app will be closer to the functionality of other game stores/launchers, Xbox Game Pass on PC is apparently a better deal than ever, especially as long as it stays at the current price of $9.99 per month.

Microsoft also revealed several games coming to Xbox Game Pass in the same announcement. Far: Changing the Tides is now available, with Kentucky Route Zero and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy both arrive March 10. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers also receive exclusive items for EA Sports UFC 4 on consoles and Infinite Halo on all platforms. Four games are also leaving Game Pass on March 15: To deny: automatons, Whores!, Torchlight IIIand Surge 2.

The Xbox app (beta) now offers an easy way to enable mods for certain games where the game developer has chosen to allow mods. Click the triple dot next to the “Play” icon and select “Enable Mods” to make them work with any mod you have downloaded for this game. Microsoft has done a great job with Game Pass, with new games being added to the subscription service on launch day. The latest app update lets you edit files locally and play all Microsoft Store games, including the best of PC Game Pass, making the deals even better than ever. Beaumont then confirmed that the update will also allow players to access their local files for various games in Xbox Games Pass.

Several Microsoft Store games currently support modding, but plans to give gamers access to game files on Windows are great news for the modding community. Microsoft is now releasing its Xbox app for PC, giving users more control over game files, including the ability to edit them. Xbox PC app now allows modding

Microsoft is now opening up its Xbox app for PC to give users more control over game files, which includes the option of modding.

Xbox-App-for-Windows-PC-Official-Showcase

Although Microsoft Xbox The PC app offers players another opportunity to collect and play games, it has always been less than ideal to use due to its lack of key PC-specific features, such as the ability to choose the a game’s installation folder. This, however, has now been changed with the latest app update.

According to Microsoft’s update preview, the Xbox app on PC has now been opened up more than ever before, including support for some core features that PC gamers may find invaluable. While being able to choose where a game is installed is crucial, the fact that the app now allows players to edit local game files, just like they would on any other platform. The update, which is now available to all Xbox PC app users, enables local file editing and manipulation of all Microsoft Store games, including top games on PC Game Pass, making deal even better than before. Xbox Partner Director of Experiences Jason Beaumont also said some users may find that download speeds have increased in some cases, although it’s unclear what sort of optimizations may have been made in this regard. .

Xbox-Game-Pass-Official-Game-Featurette

As Microsoft makes huge, sweeping changes to Xbox services across the board, gamers can be happy to see that the company isn’t forgetting how badly its quality of life features have been lacking in the past. By removing installation restrictions and allowing users to modify game files whenever they want, Xbox can still achieve feature parity with other major PC gaming platforms, such as Steam.

The ability to choose a game’s install folder and – potentially – mod is just the latest in a long line of app updates designed to open up the system and give players more control. Not too long ago, for example, Xbox finally made the “Share” button customizable, meaning users could also remap certain features of their controllers on the go. This suggests that Microsoft and Xbox, in particular, are looking at ways to make the platform more accessible than ever.

Moddable games apparently receive a special tag on their Xbox app pages that specifies them as such. This may suggest that the system is not as open as Xbox is in the process of doing so, as it implies that not all titles will be immediately handled locally. Other improvements, such as the ability to choose where a game is installed or saving its local files, should thankfully be available across the board, and they’ll likely help bolster record annual revenue even further. from Xbox in 2022.

You can now install PC games to any folder with Microsoft’s Xbox app

Last year, Microsoft introduced the ability for some users to download PC games to any folder on Windows 10 and 11 using the Xbox app. This feature, which will greatly facilitate the process of installing games, is now available to the general public.

PC game downloads are now simplified

The new capacity will Windows 10 and Windows 11 users download games from the Xbox app anywhere on their PCthus removing restrictions otherwise placed on game files.

Until now, users could only download PC games from the store only in WindowsApps folder, which was present at the root of the drive. Also, users were not allowed to move the files to other folders or modify them. Now all of that will be gone and users will be able to choose which folder they want their games to be installed in.

Another advantage is that this ability to save and download games in any folder also applies to existing games. Users would only need to select downloaded games through the Xbox app -> right-click on games -> opt for Manage option -> enable new game installation and management features.

Xbox app on PC now lets you select folder to install games

Microsoft has done a stellar job with Game Pass, adding new games to the subscription service the same day they’re released. However, the Xbox app on PC has been widely criticized for the myriad of issues plaguing the experience.

Download errors, inability to install or update games are just some of the common issues users face while using the app. When it comes to general usage, the Xbox app lags the competition, especially when it comes to basic functionality.

The company recently addressed some of these concerns through the Xbox Insider Program, when it gave users the option to choose where games are installed. Prior to this update, the Xbox app would dump its game to a restricted access folder on the C: drive. Microsoft announced that this feature is now available to all Xbox app users on Windows 10 and 11, along with a few other improvements, in the latest Xbox PC app update.

How to choose the folder where your Xbox PC games are installed

Microsoft’s Xbox app now lets you set up PC video games in any folder » GossipChimp

The new Xbox app update is available now. | Picture: Microsoft

Microsoft finally allows Windows retailer video games to be placed in any freely accessible folder. The software started testing this feature last year, and it’s now rolling out to Xbox for all Windows 10 and Windows 11 customers today.

This will dramatically improve the Windows Store game setup process, allowing PC gamers to put titles in any folder they choose with unrestricted access to sports record data. It should deal with the many hassles of installing games from PC Game Pass, and Windows users should be able to back up sports recording data and restore it sooner or later.

The new Xbox app configuration options.

Previously, Microsoft had pressured Windows users to place PC games from its app retailer directly into a dedicated WindowsApps folder in the root of a drive. Although other storage drives have been supported, you cannot set video games directly to a folder of your choice or freely transfer or modify save data.

You won’t need to reinstall your current video games to enjoy the benefits of this update, neither. Microsoft’s Xbox app now lets you install PC games to any folder

Microsoft finally allows the installation of games from the Windows Store in any freely accessible folder. The software giant started testing this feature last year, and it’s now rolling out to Xbox for all Windows 10 and Windows 11 users today.

This will dramatically improve the process of installing the game from the Windows Store, allowing PC gamers to install titles to any folder they choose with unrestricted access to game files. It should fix the many ailments issues related to installing games from PC Game Pass, and Windows users should be able to back up game files and restore them in the future.

The new install features on the Xbox app.

Microsoft previously required Windows users to install PC games from its App Store into a dedicated WindowsApps folder in the root of a drive. Although additional storage drives were supported, you could not install games to a folder of your choice, move them freely, or modify files.

You also won’t need to reinstall your existing games to take advantage of this update. You can right-click games in the Xbox app and select manage, then turn on the new install and manage games features. All games you install in the future will include the ability to choose the folder you install them into.

These changes will also open up the ability to mod more games from the Windows Store, and overall make the Xbox app much more Steam-like. The new Xbox app update is available immediately on the Windows Store.

Tech fires six position players who have started at least 30 games and 11 pitchers, including Brandon Birdsell who was selected in the 11th round of the MLB Draft last year. Meanwhile, Jace Jung is the headline-grabber, as the 2021 Big 12 Player of the Year, entering 2022 as the conference preseason player of the year, a Golden Spikes Watch Lister and a five-time first All-American preseason team.

BIG 12 HONORS

Ty Coleman was selected as the Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The price covers matches played from February 21 to 27. In four games, Coleman hit .471 with 11 RBIs and two doubles and two homers, including a seventh-inning 3-run outburst to land a series sweep for the Red Raiders over Kent State. The junior designated hitter played in three multi-hit games, including a 3-on-5 performance with two doubles to open a doubleheader on Sunday. He had four RBIs in two different games, including Texas Tech’s midweek win over Dallas Baptist. For the week, Coleman had a 1.441 OPS, scored six runs and four of his eight hits went for extra bases. These are Coleman’s first weekly honors from the Big 12.

HEY FIRST YEAR
The young guns of Texas Tech’s 2022 squad have only made their presence known seven games into the season. More specifically right fielder Owen Washburn (7 starts), catcher Hudson White (7 starts) and right-handed pitcher Trendan Parish.

  • Washburn: Ranked second or tied for second on the team in batting average (.333) and runs scored (6) and hits (8). His highlight came in his college opener, providing the 2-out single to give Tech a 7-6 win over Michigan on Feb. 18.
  • White: The Red Raiders lost veteran leadership behind the flat in Braxton Fulford, who started 144 games and was drafted in the sixth round by the Colorado Rockies in last year’s MLB draft. The Byron Nelson HS freshman in Keller, Texas, stepped in to be a constant presence for this year’s pitching team by starting six games behind the flat.
  • Parish: Has an ERA of 0.00 and is the only staff pitcher to have a clean sheet of those who have pitched 5.0 or more innings. The freshman made three saves in three appearances in the Red Raiders’ recent four-game homestand. He struck out eight of the 14 batters he faced in those three games.

TRAVELS IN THE RED RAIDER NATION
Saturday’s games at the State Farm Showdown were the highest neutral-site attendance (10,515) of the season and the seventh-largest opening weekend crowd in college baseball. A large contingent of that crowd was scarlet and black as “Raider, Power” chants even erupted during Saturday’s opener between K-State and Michigan, which was around 2 p.m. when the game of Texas Tech’s basketball ended in the finals against Texas, ahead of the baseball team’s scheduled 3 p.m. game against Auburn.

Steam might work with Microsoft on Game Pass for Steam Store

You’re probably familiar with Valve’s Steam service for downloading all manner of PC, Linux, Mac, and even the latest Xbox Game Studios games. Yet, at the same time, Microsoft also has its own Xbox app on Windows that lets you install its own games and other PC games like Destiny 2.

The two services compete with each other, but, according to an interview seen on PC Gamer, there’s a chance that Microsoft and Valve will come together to put a PC version of Xbox Game Pass on the Steam store (via Neowin.)

It’s just a rumor at the moment, and nothing has been confirmed, but Valve’s Gave Newell apparently seems very open to the idea. Asked by PC Gamer about Steam launching its own subscription service, or Xbox Game Pass Games, Newell had the following to say, praising Game Pass.

“I don’t think it’s something we think we should do ourselves, create a subscription service at this time. But for their customers, it’s clearly a popular option, and we’d be more than happy to working with them to get that on Steam.”

Xbox Game Pass may be affordable, but Steam is by far the most popular service for PC gamers and gamers in general. It was last reported in 2021 that Steam had 120 million monthly active users, with 62.6 million people using the service daily. Xbox Game Pass, meanwhile, has 25 million subscribers.

It would be interesting to see the two companies come together, much like what happened when Microsoft put its games on Steam in 2020. It could help sell more Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, and even help sell hardware. like the Steam Deck, which will get optimizations for Windows.

Of course, rumors will be rumors, but this kind of partnership has been done before. EA Play was added to Steam in 2020. So hold your breath and hope for bigger things in the future.

Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master

PC drives from Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master might be scratching their heads right now, no thanks to the connection issue they’re having when launching the game through the Xbox PC app. Bandai Namco is actually already aware of the connection issue on the PC version of Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master. However, at the time of writing, no hotfixes or patches have been released yet. Fortunately, Mess, the developer of the roguelike card game ring of paincreated a DIY patch and shared it on social networks.

According to Mess, the connection issue revolves around the game trying to connect players “silently” once they enter the title screen, but it turns out that the Windows Game Developer Kit backend needs to prompt players to login for the first time. before accessing the title screen of the game. The Mess DIY patch works by forcing the login prompt to appear before loading the title screen. Here’s how to apply the patch for your game.

How to Fix Connection Issue in Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master on Xbox PC App

  1. Enable mods for Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master from the Xbox app. We have to do this because we are going to add files to the game folder.
  2. Download BepInEx from GitHub, a tool/mod to patch Unity games. Currently the latest version is 5.4.18, so get the BepInEx_x64_5.4.18.0.zip (if you are using 64-bit Windows).
  3. Download the patch created by Mess fans on GitHub, com.fluto.taikomods.dll.
  4. Go to the Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master installation directory.
    • By default, it is located under “C:Program FilesModifiableWindowsAppsTaiko no Tatsujin” but the directory will be different if you changed the installation location.
    • Click the Open Mods Folder button after activating the mods to also open the installation folder.
  5. Extract the files from BepInEx_x64.zip and move them all to the installation folder.
  6. Then run Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master from the Xbox app once, then close it.
  7. Go to Taiko no “TatsujinBepInExplugins”, and a new file should be generated in the folder.
    • However, don’t worry if the plugins folder is still empty. Just keep following the steps.
  8. Move com.fluto.taikomods.dll into this “plugin” folder.
    • Replace if another com.fluto.taikomods.dll file already exists.
  9. You should now be able to log in and finally enter the game.

While Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master is the first game in the series released exclusively on Xbox and PC consoles, it was not the first game released outside of Japan. The popular arcade rhythm game series enters the living room of Western gamers for the first time through the PS2 title, Taiko: drum masterreleased on October 26, 2004. Pop Tap Beat Drums was also made available on Apple Arcade last year. Have you played Taiko games before? Share your stories in the comments.

Advanced game install features on the Xbox app for PC are now enabled by default

Microsoft is rolling out a new version of the Xbox app for Windows 10 and 11, enabling advanced install features that rolled out a few months ago by default. The features were already available to try out before, but now they’ll be enabled by default so you can install games to your favorite folder without having to jump through any hoops.

Being able to choose where games are installed and see their files is important, as it also allows you to potentially modify game files. Mods are important to many in the PC gaming community, so it’s great to see . However, although the feature is enabled by default, you will still need to be part of the preview program to be able to use it.

To join the preview, you must download the Xbox Insider Hub app from the Microsoft Store. Once in the app, go to Previews on the side, then choose the Windows Gaming program. Once registered, you will begin receiving preview updates for the Xbox and Xbox Game Bar apps. Next, install the latest Xbox app update – version 2201.1000.38.0 – and you can choose a folder to install your PC games using the Xbox app.

Xbox app showing the current install location of a game

One thing to note is that you don’t choose the location of each game when you install it. You’ll need to head into the Xbox app settings to choose the default installation folder, and all new games will install there from there. You can, however, move them to another folder afterwards.

In addition to enabling this feature by default, some fixes are included in this update. Many of them are related to this new feature, which is probably why Microsoft is comfortable enabling it by default now. There are also some crushed accessibility issues and more:

Fixes in Xbox app build 2201.1000.38.0

  • Fixed compatibility issues with Gears 5 and Slay the Spire.
  • Fixed an issue where enabling advanced install features for a game would cause an access denied error.
  • Addressed various accessibility issues.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented changing the game folder.
  • Deleting the game folder no longer causes an issue where drives are not recognized in the Xbox app.
  • Fixed an issue that caused game updates to reinstall the full game.

The app also has some known issues in this version of the app, including some games that don’t fully support the new feature, such as Back 4 Blood and Phantasy Star Online 2. You can find the full list of issues below :

Known issues in Xbox app build 2201.1000.38.0

  • Moving a game from one drive to another indicates a “download” in the install queue, but the game is actually being moved, not reinstalled.
  • You may experience problems launching games installed on an external drive.
  • You may see an “invalid executable” error when launching certain games after initially installing them. Try restarting your PC to fix this problem.
  • Some games indicate that an update is available but selecting the update button does nothing.
  • Starting a game update can take a long time. This includes updates that add content to an existing install, such as a campaign mode.
  • Attempting to encrypt the game’s installation folder from the Windows shell may cause compatibility issues.
  • Mods for a version of a game on another platform may not work on the Xbox PC Game Pass version.
  • The following games are not yet compatible:
    • Back 4 Blood
    • Cricket 19
    • Star Fantasy Online 2
    • State of Decay 2
    • Games offering pre-installation
    • Note that game files for these games will not appear in the game’s install folder. The Xbox app does not currently show this, but will in a future update. If games outside of this list are not showing up in the game’s install folder, they’re probably backlogged as well.

If you’re already part of the Xbox Insider Program, you should be able to try out the new features right away. Hopefully, we’ll see mod support ramp up in the games available on the Xbox app.

[UPDATE 1/18 @ 2:00PM ET] This article originally stated that this feature was new, but it’s actually been available for a while. Today’s update enabled the feature by default and includes some fixes for the experience.

So when you change the location and install another game, it will be installed in a different location. Make sure you choose a driver that offers good read and write speeds for the best performance.

  • Open the Xbox app
  • Click on your profile picture> Select Settings
  • In Xbox settings, go to General> Game installation options
  • Assuming you have another partition, click the drop-down menu and replace it with another drive

To go further, if you have several partitions and enough space, you can define something else. In the game’s install options, check the box that says: Learn about the installation options in each installation..

Now the next time you install a game, it will ask you where to install it.

Change the location of existing Xbox games

The second step is to move the existing games to a different location so that the mainframe can have more room to breathe and the games can be expanded as needed.

Go to Windows Settings> Apps> Apps & Features. Click the vertical three-dot menu> Advanced options. Look for the option to move the app from one location to another on the next screen. Once moved, all shortcuts and entries will be updated so that there are no broken links.

Can Xbox Game Pass games be stored on the external hard drive?

Yes, you can move any game to an external hard drive if the developer has allowed it. This also applies to all apps, and they all work. Having said that, make sure the hard drive is plugged in when you want to play. That being said, that doesn’t mean you can plug it in and play on any PC. Make sure the external drive has a capacity of 256 GB and is using a USB 3.0 connection.

Can I use another account in the Xbox app?

The Xbox app lets you sign out and then use a different account to sign in. You will be given the option to switch to the Microsoft account when Windows tries to reconnect with the current Microsoft account.

Can you play Xbox games on PC without Xbox?

Check how to change the default install location of the Xbox app

Microsoft is finally updating the Xbox and Microsoft Store apps on Windows so that you can specify a folder where you want to install your games. The change will be available soon to people installing the Xbox Insider Hub app, and according to The Verge, it should be in beta before Halo Infinite releases on December 8. The update lets you choose a hard drive and a folder within it as the location to install your game. Like any other program on your PC, you can access folders without Windows marking them as hidden, as is currently the case with the WindowsApps folder.

The change removes the barriers Windows uses to keep you from accessing your game files, preventing people from installing and using mods. Some games currently allow mods, but only allow you access to a dedicated mod folder. With this change, you can install mods directly into your game files like on Steam. It is not clear whether updating the Xbox and Microsoft Store app fixes a persistent issue where Game Pass games are not fully uninstalled and your hard drive space is not reclaimed. PC Game Pass subscribers will surely appreciate this change as it makes it much easier to manage your files as you frequently install games.

If the installation is stuck for a long time, it is better to restart the PC and try to reinstall the application with administrator permission. Many issues are resolved after restarting the PC, and if there is something blocking the process, restart the PC.

If you try to install it from the Store, you can always download the installer from here and give it a try.

3]Run the DISM and SFC tools

Run sfc scannow

It is always a good idea to run the SFC tool to eliminate corrupt system file issues. Run the following command on an elevated command prompt and let the process complete.

sfc /scannow

If the tool finds a problem in any of the corrupted system files or incompatible versions, it will be replaced and fixed.

4]Run the Windows Application Troubleshooter

Run the app troubleshooter

If you have already uninstalled the app and tried to reinstall the app only to deal with this problem, you should run the Windows App Troubleshooter. Go to Settings> Troubleshoot> Other troubleshooter and run the Windows Store app and program app compatibility troubleshooter.

5]Repair or reset the Microsoft Store

Reset Repair Microsoft Store

If the troubleshooter does not work, you can reset the Microsoft Store app, and then try reinstalling the app again. Go to Settings> Apps & Features. Locate the Store app, then click the three-dot menu button> Advanced options. Scroll to the end of the screen and click the Repair and Reset buttons. Once done, try reinstalling the app and see if the issue is resolved.

Does closing the Xbox app speed up the installation of games?

The Xbox app on Windows PC is only used to access games and initiate downloads. However, the actual download is done through the Microsoft Store in the background. So even if you close the app, it works the usual way and is not faster.

Why isn’t the Xbox Installer working?

If everything is working as expected, it could be security or antivirus blocking the Xbox app’s connections to your Microsoft servers. You can therefore deactivate it momentarily, then try again.

How do I repair Windows installer?

If that doesn’t work, you can start it manually. If it is already running, stop it and then start it. If you suspect that the installer is corrupted, you can run the DISM and SFC tool to resolve this issue.

Microsoft’s New Year’s Resolution 2022 is expected to fix the Xbox app on PC

Source: Matt Brown | Windows Central

Microsoft’s industry-leading Xbox Game Pass service has given the Xbox platform a huge advantage over the past two years, drawing countless fans into the Xbox ecosystem with its gargantuan buffet of all-you-can-eat games and an affordable monthly cost. As part of the company’s efforts to jump right into the PC gaming space, Microsoft has also released PC Game Pass, a PC version of Game Pass that offers the same benefits to people who prefer to play games on Windows. .

Unfortunately, unlike the Xbox Game Pass experience on console, the PC Game Pass experience was very disappointing for a while. PC Game Pass just wasn’t good enough as users were forced to deal with issues delivering UWP apps that broke game installations, addiction to the slow and faulty Windows 10 version of the Microsoft Store, an Xbox app that wasn’t much better, and exceptionally poor mod support.

The arrival of Windows 11 fixed many of these issues, and Microsoft also made the wise decision to move everything to the Xbox app on PC instead of dividing the PC Game Pass experience between it and Microsoft. Store. However, there is one glaring flaw that Microsoft has not fixed: the quality of the Xbox app on PC.

Xbox app on PCSource: Windows Central The data on each tab in the Xbox app often takes an extremely long time to load.

In my experience, the biggest problem with the Xbox app is that it can often be incredibly slow and buggy to use. It’s better than the Microsoft Store in Windows 10, but it’s still far from in an acceptable state. Often times, the install or update buttons on my games just don’t work, forcing me to relaunch the app. Sometimes the video game box art on the storefront won’t load at all making it impossible to see what games I’m watching. The app didn’t even show me an option to update my games despite a patch being released by the developer, preventing me from accessing official bug fixes (this prevents you from playing games completely. multiplayer games).

These are just my problems though. Other users have reported issues such as game libraries not displaying correctly, preloaded games not launching properly when released, and the application is hogging a significant amount of system resources. Overall, the state of the app is simply unacceptable.

The Xbox app is slow, unreliable, and lacks the utility PC gamers have come to expect.

The app organization filters either don’t make sense or work fine. For example, why are there tags for “Xbox One X Enhanced” and “Optimized for Xbox Series X | S” games on PC? Why does the storefront show me only one game when I select the “120 FPS” tag, despite the fact that a large portion of the PC Game Pass library supports this frame rate? Why doesn’t “Cloud Enabled” show me popular titles available through Xbox Cloud Gaming like Halo Infinite and Sea of Thieves? Compared to Steam’s reliable and precise filters, Xbox apps look awful.

Compared to other PC storefronts, the Xbox app also lacks quality of life. You cannot organize your installed games into custom collections or move your game installations to a different folder or drive, and there is no way to see your game time or check for the latest patch notes. for recent updates. The app’s Social tab is also lacking, as it only shows you your friends list and recent friends posts without giving you a way to create and interact with groups and communities like you. can on Xbox.

Xbox app on PCSource: Windows Central

Ultimately, there’s no getting around this: the Xbox app is slow, unreliable, and lacks the utility PC gamers have come to expect. This is disappointing, as the potential of PC Game Pass is huge, and shouldn’t be held back by frustrating stability issues and missing features. There is no doubt in my mind that PC Game Pass would be a lot more popular than it is now if the Xbox app user experience weren’t so flawed.

If Microsoft wants PC Game Pass and its global push into the PC gaming space to develop and succeed like Xbox Game Pass did, it must address the many shortcomings of the Xbox app in 2022 – the earliest. possible. It’s crucial that Microsoft offers robust software that makes playing and engaging with the best PC games easy and frustration-free, and at the moment the Xbox app is not enough.

11 things new Xbox Series X, S owners should know: games, gear

Two next-gen Xbox consoles hang out in a black and green void.

Picture: Microsoft / Kotaku

Congratulations, you have a next-gen console. It’s hard to believe that more than a year after the launch of the Xbox Series X / S, it’s always so hard to find one. But you did. Or someone who really loves you and gave it to you for the holidays. How nice they are! Anyway, now that you have a new Xbox, you might be wondering what to do with it, or maybe you just want a few helpful tips to get you started and start playing great games like Infinite halo as soon as possible. Kotakuis here to help!

Make sure you have a free Xbox account

Although you can create an account on the console, using your phone or PC is faster, easier, and gives you a convenient way to save your password, allowing you to log in to your computer more efficiently. the future. Create the free Xbox account will allow you to access the Xbox store and record your purchases, so you can play all your games on other devices just by signing in with your Xbox account.

Download the Xbox app on your phone

Once you have an Xbox account, download the free Xbox app. This will make configuring the console much easier. Although you can set up an Xbox Series X / S console without a phone, using the app streamlines the entire process of signing in and configuring things like language, location, and Internet settings. Moreover, once everything is set up, the app can be used to message friends, send invitations, group chat, etc.

Check if your controller is up to date

I know, weird stuff that controllers can be updated, but take the time to check through the settings menu. From there go to “Devices and connections”, where you can update all the accessories connected to your console. The controllers can be updated wirelessly or via USB.

A very close-up view shows an Xbox Series X / S controller.

Configure automatic connection through your controller

If you trust everyone in your home or live on your own, this option is great and saves time! Go to the account settings section of your new Xbox and search for “Sign-in, security, and passkey.” From there you can link your currently active controller to your Xbox account. Now, every time you use this controller, your Xbox will automatically sign in with your account. Remember that only one account can be associated with a controller, and once you activate it, anyone will be able to access your account just by using that controller to turn on the console.

Calibrate your TV and Xbox

Your new Xbox is powerful and can produce great pictures, but the graphics will be even better if you make sure the TV and Xbox are calibrated correctly. Fortunately, Xbox Series X / S has super easy to use tools to polish and perfect your image, located in the video options of the general settings menu.

One of the tools here will let you know if your TV supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) colors, faster refresh rates like 120Hz, or Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology. If your TV supports some of these features, this same menu will allow you to quickly switch between these and others. Make sure you take a moment to get everything right. If you have a fancy TV that supports all the bells and whistles, it would be a shame not to take advantage of it. Once you experience a game running at 120Hz with HDR, you won’t want to go back.

Get the Ultimate Game Pass

While you can enjoy an Xbox without Microsoft’s Game Pass service, we strongly recommend that you give it a try. Game Pass is by far the best gaming deal right now and will provide you with a big list of great games to check out, many of which can be downloaded and installed in a matter of minutes. In particular, all games published by Microsoft, such as Infinite halo and Forza Horizon 5, come for free with a Game Pass subscription. the Ultimate Game Pass The level also provides you with Xbox Live Gold, letting you play games like GTA Online and Battlefield 2042 online and gives you free games every month through the Games With Gold program. Ultimate also includes free PC games and cloud streaming. It is worth improving.

Oh, download the Game Pass app too

I know two apps for the Xbox look weird, but if you are interested in playing a lot of games through Game Pass, get the app. It’s easier to browse the Game Pass library through your phone, and you can start downloading and installing games through the app, which is handy if you’re at work or school and hearing about awesome new game which has just been added to the service. Start downloading it through the app and it will be waiting for you when you get home.

The Master Chief stands with his back to the camera while watching the surroundings of the Halo Ring.

Start downloading great games

It’s time to take the plunge. A great way to start is to use our list of the best Game Pass games to see some of the greatest pleasures service has to offer. Some of the main recommendations include Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Control, Hollow Knight, and The outer worlds. But there are so many more. And if you’d rather be scared, we’ve got some thoughts on awesome horror games Game Pass too much.

Customize your dashboard and organize all those games

As you start downloading more games, your Xbox dashboard will start to get cluttered. A great way to combat this entropy is to create new dashboard sections. Just press the ‘two squares’ button on the controller (it’s called the ‘view’ button, by the way … weird) and you’ll find the ‘Personalize Home’ screen. Here you can change the colors, theme, and background of your dashboard and console. Most importantly, you can add and remove content sections from the main screen. For example, you can create a section called “Backlog” and paste all the games you want to play into it. Or you can organize by genre. Or whatever works for you. Even games that you have not yet installed can be assigned to these sections.

Consider buying a better controller and a better headset

I think the new Xbox controller is fantastic. But if you want something a little more chic, you can always switch to Elite Controller, an improved and more advanced controller hardware component. It features useful paddles on the back, as well as improved rubber poles and grips. Personally, I haven’t made the jump to an Elite controller – it’s very expensive – but many have praised it.

I can however personally recommend the excellent official Xbox headset. It’s easy to use, sounds great, and can sync with your Xbox and another device at the same time. This allows me to talk to people online through Discord on my phone, while listening to game audio from the Xbox. You can even use the button on the side of the headset to adjust the balance easily and quickly while playing.

Do it all before give it to someone

If you’re reading this before buying someone a new Xbox, or if you already have it and you’re about to pack it up, Stop! I highly recommend setting this up ahead of time, completing most of the suggestions above before giving the shiny new console to the recipient. That way, they can open it, plug it in, and start playing right away!

A new console is a great gift, but an even better gift is a new console filled with games already set up and ready to play.

Once you’ve connected your Xbox, installed some fun new games, updated your controller, and sorted out your TV settings, it’s time to stop reading this article and go play some video games. Well, unless you want to dig into the comments first, because I’m guessing a few readers might have their own additional tips and tricks. Either way, enjoy your new Xbox!

Xbox PC Game Pass has one big problem – and that’s not the name

I am an Xbox Game Pass Evangelist. I’ve been a subscriber for years and have recommended it to the point of annoying many of my console and PC gaming friends. Microsoft renamed the PC version at the Game Awards. I’m still a fan, but the issues with PC Game Pass go way beyond the name.

The Xbox app on Windows 11 and Windows 10 has always been a problem since the launch of PC Game Pass in 2019. And now that Microsoft wants the PC version to be on par with the console version, it’s time to start. solve the problem.

Xbox Game Pass for PC, meet PC Game Pass

First of all, the substance. Xbox Game Pass for PC is now PC Game Pass, which Microsoft revealed through a tongue-in-cheek trailer at the Game Awards. It’s about how everyone associates Game Pass with consoles and ignores the PC part.

It’s true. Game Pass is now synonymous with Xbox. Although Microsoft only offers PC Game Pass, most people get it through a Game Pass Ultimate membership (which includes console and PC versions, as well as Xbox Live). I’ve had a few friends this year who took to PC gaming, totally unaware that they could access hundreds of games for a few dollars every month.

It’s pretty problematic, at least, that Microsoft decided to make it a Game Awards trailer. I’ve been using PC Game Pass since its launch, and I can tell you the name isn’t – and never has been – the problem.

The problem is the Xbox app

The problem with PC Game Pass is the Xbox app. I’ve been using PC Game Pass since its launch two years ago, and the Xbox app has always been the most constant problem. It’s bug-prone, horribly disorganized, and lacking in the essential features that make platforms like Steam work.

Disorganization is the silent killer. Filters that search Game Pass’s massive library don’t work. I like to switch between my Xbox and my PC, so I got hooked on Xbox Play Anywhere games (which let you transfer progress between the two systems). Only a fraction of Play Anywhere games are displayed with the filter, although much of the library supports Play Anywhere.

Microsoft uses tags to rate the abilities of each game, but they don’t filter those games in the results. Lots of tags don’t make sense either. For example, you can filter by “60fps +” capabilities, but you will only find five games. Why is this a filter on a PC? And more importantly, why does it only include five games?

Is this useful to anyone?

These issues are just a small sampling of the larger quality of life issues that plague the Xbox app. You cannot see your play time or organize your installed games into groups. And you can’t move your install folder or see what the latest fixes for your games are. The tagging system would help on the quality of life front, but not when half the library is improperly branded (including some proprietary Microsoft titles!)

Bugs and updates are what kills the Xbox app for me, however. Here is a small sample of the bugs I encountered across releases:

  • Being stuck on the start screen.
  • My library is not showing any games (this is happening as I am typing this article).
  • To download and Update the buttons do nothing.
  • No option to update a game when it is available, which breaks multiplayer in some games.
  • Art box refusing to load.
  • Preloaded games get stuck on the preload screen after release.
  • Inexplicable grabbing of huge amounts of system resources.

Bugs are occurring and I was always able to resolve the above issues by quitting and reopening the app. But they’re too persistent not to be addressed, especially since you have to download an update every time Microsoft announces a new batch of titles (which, yes, is another big deal with the Xbox app. ).

Xbox Game Pass Library for PC.
My games don’t appear in the library tab on the left, even if they are installed.

Call PC Game Pass whatever you want, I don’t care. But Microsoft can’t act like the name is the issue here. PC Game Pass is a great service, offering just as good value for money as its console counterpart. Perhaps Microsoft would see more adoption if the Xbox app was a destination like Steam, not another half-baked PC gaming app that locks games behind software gamers reluctantly use. PC gamers have plenty of them.

What PC Game Pass does well

November Xbox Game Pass Games List

I don’t mean to denigrate Microsoft. Over the past couple of years, I’ve seen PC Game Pass go from an added perk over Game Pass Ultimate memberships to a platform worthy of its own membership. It’s fantastic, and I want to see Microsoft continue to build on what it already does well.

Most games were previously only available on the console version, but it’s now rare to find a Game Pass title that isn’t also on PC. EA Play is also a great addition, allowing you to play a massive roster of EA games on PC without a separate subscription (but without success, which is also the case with EA games on Steam).

Microsoft has also clearly focused on expanding Play Anywhere. Halo Infinite, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and Yakuza: like a dragon are a few recent examples of games I have played on console and PC through Play Anywhere. It’s a great program, and it shows that Microsoft knows what console and PC enthusiasts want.

The issues of bugs, disorganization and quality of life will not go away tomorrow. And right now, some games are still console exclusive, and there’s a long list of titles that don’t support Play Anywhere. The difference is that Microsoft is constantly improving on the gaming front.

For almost three years, I have seen the same bugs and issues over and over again. I’m not asking Microsoft to fix the Xbox app tomorrow, just stepping forward to deliver new features, fix long-standing issues, and make the app more like a destination for games on PC. It would do more for the service than a rebranding.

The Windows Xbox app will make it easier to know if a game will run well on your PC

Plano, Texas, December 13, 2021, ZEXPRWIRE, Microsoft is updating its Xbox app for Windows users, letting gamers know which games will perform well on their PC before downloading them. Although this new feature is still in testing, some games already have a new label.

Xbox app users will have to wait a bit until Microsoft has finished performing a performance check on various PC games to create this new label accurately. Some games may already have the “performance control not yet available” label.

This means that the new Xbox update is not just a simple app that checks your PC’s system requirements, but rather, Microsoft is on the move to build its own database of how PC games perform.

Microsoft’s new Xbox app

There is no official news from Microsoft yet that details this new performance check. It’s not clear if their new label is based on minimum game specifications, recommendations, or other information.

While Microsoft’s new Xbox app proves to be reliable, it will indeed help Xbox users avoid third-party tools or websites, such as Can You Run It. Anyone interested in learning about the new Xbox app can simply give it a try by downloading the Xbox Insider app and using the Windows Game Preview.

Risks of playing online games

It is well known that gamers who want to test how powerful their PCs are and how they resist new games can sometimes download suspicious software that compromises their computers.

Microsoft’s new Xbox app could solve this problem; However, until then, here are a few things to consider in order to stay safe when gaming online.

Always have an active antivirus

Having an active antivirus on your PC is more critical than turning it off to play a particular game. If your security is breached, you can lose vital information on your PC permanently. Avoid playing games that require you to turn off your protection and make sure your antivirus is always on.

To check if your antivirus is activated, go to Start> Settings> Update & Security> Windows Security, and check your status.

Keep everything up to date

Having an antivirus will not be enough to be completely secure online. You should also periodically check if it is up to date. This also includes your version of Windows and other applications.

Hackers can easily access your data if you don’t keep your apps up to date. They can act as a sort of gateway for cybercriminals, so make sure all is well!

Using a VPN

Just like regular Windows users love games, hackers can love them too. Since people easily provoke each other in a variety of online media, including games, you might as well trick a hacker into targeting you.

One of the best ways to boost your online security is to use a VPN on your Xbox. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and it’s a service that will encrypt your data online, thus securing your privacy on the web.

More than that, with a VPN you can bypass certain geographic restrictions. You can choose a false country and access Internet information specifically available for that country. When it comes to games, you can also get early access to some versions if that’s the case with a VPN.

Regardless of what you choose to do with your VPN service, you should always avoid downloading suspicious documents or accessing suspicious links.

Never share your real information

Another tip for staying safe while playing online video games is to keep your personal information to yourself. You never know who you are talking to on the other end of the screen. Some games require you to use an email to create and access an account. Make sure you don’t use your primary email address for this, as it can be used against you. The same goes for online payments, especially for games. It is best to use a virtual credit card but avoid using your primary card.

The Xbox app on Windows gives you a better understanding of whether the game can run properly on your computer

December 11, 2021

Game

Due to the freedom to match specifications, it is not easy to know if your computer can play a game smoothly. In particular, different games may have different CPU, GPU, or even memory requirements. Microsoft appears to be officially fixing this issue, per The Verge They discovered they’ve added a label to the Windows Insider Beta Xbox app to indicate whether the game can be “played smoothly on this PC.”

As some games show “performance tests are not yet available”, we can know that this function of Xbox is not only to analyze your PC hardware, but also to take into account the needs of individual games. in a certain way. The detailed implementation method is not yet known, but while it can reasonably estimate how well the game will perform on your computer, it should help gamers make decisions when purchasing the game.

Xbox app

Currently, most games only list “minimum hardware requirements” and “recommended hardware requirements”. A few game developers also list recommended hardware for different modes such as Full HD, QHD, and 4K. But these are not universal guidelines in the industry, and developers are usually overly optimistic about their specifications, and sometimes it’s hard to get a benchmark. If the Microsoft label should this time have a fairer authority, it still depends on the method it uses to calculate whether it is “smooth”.

More UK retailers could drop at any time

UPDATE: Xbox Series X is now in stock at Smyths Toys. Earlier today, the console also sold at Amazon, but we still see console handles in some branches of Smyths Toys in Northern Ireland.

Despite launching over a year ago, Microsoft’s next-gen console is still nearly impossible to find in stock anywhere in the UK. Both online and in stores, the Xbox is nowhere to be found.

A semiconductor shortage coupled with delays in the global supply chain have slowed production of the latest Xbox to a trickle, leaving buyers in the UK wondering where they can get their hands on the console.

The cheaper, less advanced Xbox Series S is easier to find in stock, but the more powerful Xbox Series X is in more demand and sells out within minutes of going on sale. Knowing when and where the most recent console will be restocked is key to grabbing one before they’re all purchased.

That’s why we launched our live blog on Xbox Stock Alerts, and if you’re wondering where to buy an Xbox Series X in the UK today before Christmas, we’re here to help. Below, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest live replenishment updates as they happen, along with all the news on planned replenishment dates, new games and accessories, and milestone events.

Smyths Inventory Update

We don’t know exactly what happened with Smyths earlier. The X Series was shown to be available online for home delivery, but for the whole of five minutes. It’s out of stock again, but still appears to be available through Xbox All Access, via Smyths, which costs £ 28.99 per month for two years.

What is the difference between Xbox Series X and Series S?

(Xbox)

As we move towards the end of another tough week of Xbox hunting, let’s go over the basics. Know your enemy and all that.

There are two next-gen Xboxes, the less powerful Xbox S series, and the higher-end Xbox X series.

All old and new Xbox games will work on both consoles, although on the less powerful Xbox Series S the overall graphics quality will be reduced. The Xbox Series S has no disc drive, has half the storage capacity, and can only play downloaded games. The Xbox S series is much easier to find in stock than the X series. It’s also cheaper and costs just £ 249 (Amazon.co.uk).

Here are the details, if you like to compare teraflops.

  • CPU: Custom 8-core Zen 2 processor
  • GPU: 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUS
  • Memory: 10 GB GDDR6
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD
  • Resolution: 1440p at 60fps
  • AMD Zen 2 8-core @ 3.8 GHz
  • GPU: 12TFLOPS, 52 UC @ 1.825 GHz
  • Memory: 16 GB GDDR6
  • Storage: 1TB custom WD SSD, optional 1T
  • Resolution: 4K at 60fps

The console has for the first time an OLED display, which is larger than before and produces more vivid colors and deeper blacks. There’s also a redesigned kickstand and doubles the internal storage of its predecessor.

Our reviewer said of the £ 309.99 console: “The bigger screen is fantastic and playing games in handheld mode is absolute fun. The kickstand is so solid and makes us want to never look at that little rocker on the back of the original Switch again… it’s absolutely the best version of the console yet.

You can play Xbox games on your laptop

You don’t actually need an Xbox Series X to play Xbox Series X games, just a fairly fast internet connection and a compatible streaming device.

Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games from Microsoft’s servers to your console, laptop, or phone, through your web browser or the Xbox app. How does cloud gaming work? Well, it’s basically like being on a Zoom call with a game you control, meaning you can jump into new games with the push of a button rather than waiting for an install.

Cloud gaming requires an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription (£ 32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to over 100 games. Fortunately, decent laptops are much easier to find than the Xbox X series. If you’re considering an upgrade, check out our list of the best laptops in 2021.

Halo Infinite PC Error Code 0x80070424: Xbox app not downloading fix

The boring Infinite halo PC error code 0x80070424 plagues many gamers who try to install the latest Halo game using the Xbox app, possibly because they are trying to play it with an Xbox Game Pass for PC membership. Halo Infinite error 0x80070424 only occurs when there is an issue with the Xbox app or Xbox Game Services on PC, causing installation issues. Is there a fix for Halo Infinite that won’t install on PC?

How to fix Halo Infinite PC error code 0x80070424 on the Xbox app

To fix Halo Infinite error 0x80070424 on PC and the game not installing with Game Pass and the Xbox app, gamers should:

  • Check if other games can install or recognize the install location, then try Halo Infinite again.
  • Go to Microsoft Store, then to Library, then check for updates. “Game services” are important.
  • Look for “Halo Infinite,” “Game Services,” and the “Xbox” app under “Apps & Features” on the Start menu, then select More options on each. Then choose Finish, Repair, and then Reset for all apps.
  • Right click on the Windows button and search for “Powershell”, then right click on the game and choose “Run as administrator”. This will open a DOS box. Make sure all Xbox and Windows Store apps are properly closed in Task Manager, then paste “Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$ ($ _. InstallLocation) AppXManifest.xml”}“without the quotes and enter. Let it run until the end.
  • If that doesn’t work, try “get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers“in Powershell followed by”start ms-windows-store: // pdp /? productid = 9MWPM2CQNLHN”- these completely uninstall the game services, then direct the user to the Windows Store page. Click the blue Run or Install button. If it crashes, leave it for five minutes then click on “downloads” at the top right, then on Game Services.
  • Restart the PC and the Xbox app. If the error goes away but the install location appears as “unknown” and still won’t install, simply navigate to another game page on Game Pass and try installing it instead – the location should appear with them, then switch back to Halo Infinite and it should be available now.

Hopefully one of these fixes will help you out, although it unfortunately won’t work for everyone. Go here if the player is able to install Halo Infinite but the Xbox app won’t launch it. How to download the Halo Infinite campaign on PC (Xbox App) and Xbox

The Halo Infinite campaign has been released, but people are struggling to set it up and run it on PC, especially those who use the Xbox app. This could be due to several reasons which we will help you resolve in this article.

In the lower right corner of the screen, you will see a cog icon that you click on. Do this or press F1. This will bring up the Control Panel. Now at the bottom left of the screen you will see an option called Manage Game. Click on it or press the R button.

This will bring you to a menu where you can see the various downloads you have made for the game. Install the Game and Campaign option, and you should be good to go.

The download may take a while, as the servers are currently under review. You might run into another issue if you are a Game Pass player, as the game does not appear to be activated on the service yet. If you go to the menu, it will tell you that a purchase is required to install it, although it is included in the Game Pass.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do here until the Game Pass system is updated and the game officially released through the service. This has happened with previous versions of Game Pass, so it’s nothing new and is currently only a part of the service.

Steam needs to copy this new feature from the Xbox app

Microsoft is beta testing a new feature for the Xbox PC app that seems so obvious it’s amazing it hasn’t made it to every PC game storefront. The beta version of the app will now tell you immediately if a game will run well on your PC, making purchasing decisions infinitely easier.

When you navigate to a supported game, as reported by The Verge, you’ll see a simple box near the top of the screen that says, “Should be playing fine on this PC.” This means that you can purchase the game (or download it through Game Pass) and not have to worry about whether or not it will work.

The feature is certainly in the early stages of testing, and you’ll need to download the Xbox Insider app to try it out, but it looks promising. We hope Steam, Epic, and other PC game stores borrow it. A lot of games don’t even have labels yet, but if that takes off, it could lower the barrier to entry for PC gaming for some people.

Of course, both Steam and the Xbox app have long had the minimum and recommended system requirements for a game. And you can compare them to your PC’s specs to see if a game is playable, but not everyone knows which GPU. or they have or how much RAM their PC is running. Having a quick little feature that says this game will or won’t work is incredibly helpful.

The Xbox Windows app will let you know if the games are performing well on your PC before you download them

Microsoft is adding a simple label to its Xbox app for Windows, letting PC gamers know if a title is performing well on their machine before downloading it. The feature is currently under testing and limited to certain games before rolling out to all Xbox app users.

While system requirements have always been listed in the Xbox app, this simple label should make it easier for PC owners to determine if a game can run on their system. Microsoft performs a performance check against a variety of PC games to create this label.

The new label in the Xbox app.

There are a number of games that do not yet have the tag that simply display “performance monitoring is not yet available”, which suggests that the Xbox app does more than just check the system configuration. required from your PC. It looks like Microsoft is building its own database of how PC games work.

Microsoft has yet to officially detail this new performance check, so it’s unclear whether the label is based on a game’s minimum specs, recommended specs, or other system information.

If the reviews are reliable, it could be an easy alternative to using third-party tools and websites like Can You Run It. If you’re interested in trying out this new label or even the ability to install PC games more freely, Microsoft is allowing anyone to try out this new version of the Xbox app. All you need to do is download the Xbox Insider app and activate Windows Game Preview.

It’s unclear what benchmarks Microsoft uses to define a game that plays “excellent” on a PC, or whether there will be levels between “excellent” and the other end of “not working at all”. A game may perform well at a lower FPS on a PC with certain specs, and it is not clear whether Microsoft will also incorporate this information into its “how this game works” tag. From a quick read of the preview version, it appears that the games currently have the “great play” tag or none at all. We’ll have to wait until Microsoft says more to understand the details of how this new feature works.

Every game in the Xbox app store already includes minimum specs and recommended requirements. Until then, this is still the most reliable way to estimate how a game will perform on your PC.

Xbox app will soon support sharing of gameplay clips via public links

If you’ve used the Xbox app to share gameplay footage, you know the process isn’t very intuitive.

For example, in the iOS app, I need to download the clip to my iPhone 13 Pro first and then share it through social media. Fortunately, it looks like that will change.

According to a recent tweet from Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), users will soon be able to create publicly shareable links right in the Xbox mobile app. These links will then be located in a new “Trending Content” section that features other public links shared by players on your Friends List. You can also use these public links and share them on a social media platform like Twitter or Facebook.

The feed itself will look a lot like TikTok, allowing users to scroll through content and like, comment, and share videos.

These new features are currently being tested with a small number of users, but will soon be available to everyone, according to Hryb.

As a person who often shares Infinite halo Twitter excerpts, I hope the ability to share public links makes this process a bit more transparent and intuitive.

Xbox app benefits from enhanced content sharing features

One of the things people often complain about when it comes to Xbox is its Game DVR recording tools and sharing features. Improvements have gradually made their way to Xbox consoles, but we got a glimpse of some pretty big improvements to the way Xbox clips are shared on Xbox Live.

Recently job by Microsoft on Twitter, the Xbox app has the option to share direct links to Xbox gameplay clips. As it stands, gameplay clips are usually shared directly to Xbox Live, or need to be uploaded and then uploaded to social media sites like Instagram etc. Now, this new link sharing feature will give every clip a page tailored to that video, without requiring users to sign in or sign up for Xbox Live.

Buy Cyber Monday deals on: Amazon | Walmart | Best Buy | Microsoft | Dell

Additionally, Microsoft is also working on what looks like a Tiktok-style feature to share trending gameplay clips on the Xbox app. They already have similar functionality to this in the Xbox app, but it’s currently limited to game publisher updates and marketing content.

I’m not sure how vertical video is going to work for 16: 9 gameplay footage, or if Microsoft is going to add Instagram or TikTok-like video editing tools to fit the format, I guess time will tell. Either way, I’ve always thought Microsoft was missing a trick by not doing more with all the cool game clips that people capture on Xbox Live from a social media perspective. Sharing game clips directly to Twitter is a useful feature, but there are dozens of other potential places people may want to share a clip without having to ask the recipient to register or log in. This is a big step towards improving that flow, with a much better chance of arriving in 2022.

You can secretly play over 20 unlisted games on Xbox Game Pass for PC

Xbox Game Pass for PC is a beautiful, goofy beast. It still manages to impress me with its ever-growing range of games, while confusing me with its obscure user experience.

Take the EA Play integration, for example, which gives you access to dozens of games from EA’s subscription service. Not only can you not search for specific EA games in Xbox Game Pass for PC, but I recently found out that there are actually over 20 EA Play games not listed in the Xbox app you can play with an Xbox Game Pass PC subscription.

To play any of these games, you need to sign in to the EA Play or Origin app, then simply type the name of the game in the search box and download it (make sure your EA and Xbox accounts are related).

It’s a very good group too! The headliner has to be Crysis Remastered, released last year, but among them you’ll also find Worms WMD (in my eyes the silliest and most complete Worms game of all) as well as the biggest Battlefield game. , Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (complete with expansion to Vietnam).

There’s a solid selection of indie titles as well, including Superhot, Trine 2, The Sexy Brutale, and even something for video game historians in the form of Ultima Underworld 1 and 2.

After browsing the EA Play catalog, here are all of the EA Play games not listed in the Xbox app that Game Pass subscribers can play:

  • Aragami
  • Bard’s Tale Trilogy
  • Battlefield Bad Company 2
  • spectator
  • capsized
  • Crysis remastered
  • diluvium
  • Dungeons of Dredmor
  • epistory
  • Legrand Legacy
  • Mini-metro
  • The brutal sexy
  • Peggle Nights
  • Rebel galaxy
  • Very hot
  • This war of mine
  • Flashlight
  • Flashlight 2
  • Trigone
  • Trine 2: full story
  • Ultima Underworld 1
  • Ultima Underworld 2
  • ADM from worms

This list can go on leisurely as well, so be sure to check in the EA Play app and then set the filter to only show EA Play subscription games to see if any new surprises appear.

Looking at this list, it’s tempting to humorously conclude that “Xbox Game Pass for PC is just the gift that keeps on giving” and to wish everyone a Happy Cyber Monday, but it’s yet another indicator of the strange and difficult experience. The Xbox app looks like one of those arcade claw machines full of really good giveaways that you have to force, kick, or try a few times before you get your prize. Or in this case, a clunky claw machine that drops your prize in another clumsy claw machine (EA Play) through which you can possibly get your goodies.

I want to love you Xbox Game Pass, but sometimes you make it so difficult …

How to add Xbox friends on PC – Halo Infinite

Add your Xbox friends to your PC friends list so you can play Halo Infinite together.

Halo Infinite PC gamers are having difficulty adding Xbox friends. The reason is that Halo Infinite, at least on Steam, doesn’t seem to have a clear way for users to get their Xbox friends on their friends list. All hope is not lost, because with a little work, you can add your Xbox friends and get into a game.

How to add Xbox friends on PC

If you play Halo Infinite on Steam and want to add xbox friend to your friends list, you will need to use one of Microsoft’s Xbox apps for PC. Ideally, you will want to use the Xbox Game Bar. This is an overlay that provides quick access to things like the audio mixer, achievements, PC performance trackers, and most importantly, your Xbox friends list.

Check out our guide to Halo Infinite ranks so you can climb the ranks all the way to Onyx (hopefully).

infinite halo add xbox friends on pc
The Xbox Game Bar is a great way to add Xbox friends when playing Halo Infinite on PC.

If you haven’t already, activate Xbox Game Bar by opening Windows Settings and clicking Games. Use the slider at the top to activate the Xbox Game Bar. You can now open this overlay by pressing Win + G. From there, you’ll need to search for your friend to add them.

With the overlay open, use the Xbox Social Networks tab to view your friends list. You can either use the search bar or click the Find Friends button. Find Friends can search for users on Steam, Facebook, and Xbox. For the most part, you can just type your friend’s Xbox gamertag in the search bar and hit the plus button next to their name to add it.

Once you’ve sent a friend request to your Xbox friend, you should see them appear in the Halo Infinite social menu under “Friends.” Now you can party and start playing Arena.

If for some reason you can’t use the Xbox Game Bar, your other option is to use the Xbox app. This is available on the Microsoft Store. Download the app, sign in using your Xbox or Microsoft account, then use the Social tab at the top to add your friend. The Xbox app is where you can manage your friends list as well as your Xbox Game Pass PC game library.

Adding an Xbox friend to your PC friends list in Halo Infinite cannot be done through in-game menus (even if you are together in the Fireteam). You need to add them using Xbox’s friend list mechanism, just like you would need to use Steam to add someone. Halo Infinite may incorporate an in-game add friend button at some point, but for now, that’s how you’ll need to do it. For more helpful guides, head over to our Halo Infinite page.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate review: The best in-game content deal right now

Halo Infinite is one of the many great box office games you get on Game Pass.

Microsoft

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is an all-you-can-eat game video game subscription service with exceptional value. It has evolved far beyond its Xbox origins to become a subscription that offers something to anyone who plays games, and now encompasses console and PC game downloads, access to online multiplayer services, a deal with gaming giant EA and a cloud-based service. which streams games to almost all devices. It also offers many Day One launch games from Microsoft’s own studios.

Finding the right version of Game Pass can be confusing. Microsoft offers multiple versions, but due to the division of features between them, only the $ 15 per month Ultimate plan, which we’ll shorten here to XGPU, with all of the perks detailed above, really makes sense.

It’s this collection of features, for less than the cost of a Netflix 4K subscription, that earns Game Pass Ultimate an Editors’ Choice Award for 2021.

As

  • Unique breadth of functionality
  • Ideal for console and PC games
  • Catalog of 400 games

Do not like

  • Available games change frequently
  • PC integration headache
  • Cloud gaming limited to 1080p at 60fps

Choose the right package

Plain old Game Pass costs $ 10 per month and includes just a library of famous to obscure games, which you can download and play on Xbox One or Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. As with all of these subscriptions, games move in and out of the library on a regular basis due to licensing agreements, but Microsoft’s core products such as Halo and Forza are generally permanent. Even when a game leaves the library, you can transfer your progress to another storefront like Steam – not easily, but you can.

If you want to play online multiplayer games, in most cases you will need a separate Xbox Live subscription of $ 10 per month to play online against other people. It’s included in the Ultimate package, so you can already see why this is the plan Microsoft is really pushing you towards.

Note that free games, like Fortnite, does not require an Xbox Live subscription for multiplayer.

The $ 10 per month PC Game Pass plan uses an Xbox-only Windows-only app to download and install a subset of games from the full Game Pass library to run locally rather than stream. As these are full PC games, you will need a gaming laptop or desktop computer with a sufficiently powerful graphics card and processor, as well as plenty of hard drive space, to use it. . Game Pass for PC also includes EA Play, a subscription that alone costs $ 5 per month or $ 30 per year.

But the best bang for the buck is the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. For $ 15 per month, you get both console and PC game libraries, perks and discounts from EA Play, as well as Xbox Gold – $ 10 per month alone – which focuses on online multiplayer games. . To top it off, you can play on phones, iPads, or even a Mac using Xbox cloud games. For all those who love the two console and PC games, you’d be hard pressed to find a better deal, especially if cloud gaming continues to become a bigger part of the mix.

Game selection

Action-adventure games and shooter series like Battlefield, Destiny 2, Gears of War, and Halo make up the majority of the service’s catalog of around 400 games. By our calculations, action / adventure games accounted for 30% of titles on Game Pass, with shooters accounting for an additional 15%. Role-playing games and sports titles also performed well, but horror fans and puzzle enthusiasts will find a smaller selection (around 5% of the library). Still, Game Pass offers access to classic platform games like Banjo Kazooie, matching and puzzle games, RPGs, and unique indie games like Twelve minutes and Underworld.

The games are categorized so that you can easily find family-friendly, action-packed games, or even a last-ditch of games that are soon to expire on the platform. Game Pass is a comprehensive and intuitive service: once you’ve found a title that interests you, simply download the game to start playing.

Action games and shooters dominate the Game Pass library, but its catalog has something for everyone.

Microsoft

The Game Pass Ultimate difference: width and depth

For its intended purpose, Microsoft has unmatched advantages over its competitors for several reasons. The company has a long history in video games – Microsoft Flight Simulator launched 40 years ago and the Xbox 20 years ago – and it has the DirectX graphical programming interface used by both Windows and its Xbox consoles. It has well-established game development studios and engulfs more and more independent studios every year, in addition to maintaining relationships with all major game developers. And it operates a vast network of state-of-the-art data centers optimized to serve cloud applications: Xbox Cloud Gaming is as much about Azure as it is fun.

The key here is “the intended goal”, as XGPU is just one of our two Editors’ Choice Awards for cloud gaming: the other is Nvidia GeForce Now. XGPU is great if you don’t already have a large library of games or want to play them on any device, making it a good choice for almost anyone. GeForce Now is ideal if you already have a large library of PC games and want to play them on any device with high quality and frame rates, making it a good choice for more experienced gamers.

The two complement each other more than they compete with each other, and they require the least amount of adaptation work for developers, ensuring rapid growth in the number of games supported. It probably takes longer to sign license agreements than it does to prepare a game for either service.

In contrast, most of XGPU’s competitors only deal with parts of the bundle; for example, Google Stadia and Amazon Luna have robust networks for streaming to multiple devices, but they have small game libraries because games are harder to import.

And a boring irony is that Sony had the biggest head start on cloud gaming and pretty much blew it up, leaving PSNow just a nice and relatively inexpensive choice as a game library for the PlayStation that doesn’t. not even offer the latest Sony exclusives like XGPU does.

microsoft-xbox-gamepass-ultimate

Xbox Cloud Gaming allows you to transfer your Game Pass games to other devices.

Microsoft

Where it is missing

As a jack of all trades, XGPU does not master all aspects. For example, its cloud gaming stream is still limited to 1080p at 60 fps, while Stadia can do 4K and GeForce Now 1440p at 120 fps.

And there are few things more angry than settling down to play on your PC and finding out that the game won’t launch until you update Windows because the Xbox app is too tied to the game. Microsoft Store – a major buzzkill that has often pushed us to upgrade to other non-Game Pass games.

It has a noticeable number of new games and Day One launches, but the library also removes games on a regular basis. Like many subscription services, the game (or movie or TV series) you want always appears to be on the service you didn’t subscribe to.

While it’s great that EA Play is included in the price of the XGPU subscription, it isn’t integrated so tightly. For example, on the PC you still need to install another launcher and the family settings in XGPU do not apply to EA Play.

The value game

When it launched, Game Pass looked a lot like Netflix when it first started streaming: an interesting idea, but a slim catalog. It is now the default publishing platform for major games from Microsoft-associated publishers such as Bethesda and blockbuster series such as Halo and Forza.

As it has evolved into the multi-headed hydra that is Game Pass Ultimate, it’s hard to rationalize even buying an Xbox without also subscribing. A 12-month subscription costs the same as three major new games (or even less, now that a lot of new games have gone down to $ 70). And more importantly, it gives gamers a chance to sample a much wider range of games from developers of all sizes, solving one of the game’s biggest discovery challenges.

With Windows 11, Microsoft turns every PC into an Xbox

Microsoft has a long and fascinating relationship with video games. The company is associated with the PC, a platform on which more than a billion people play games. Meanwhile, for the past 20 years, the Xbox has reigned supreme as one of the best home video game consoles, although some consoles are better received than others.

Historically, PC games and console games existed as separate entities. The first favors customized high-power machines; the latter focuses on mass accessibility. Yet Microsoft, more than any other company, has the unique position and the driving passion to bridge this gap. Windows 11 may not completely merge all games into the long-awaited Singularity, but it is Microsoft’s most user-friendly operating system to date. Windows 11 essentially turns your PC into an Xbox, blurring the line between the two platforms.

Xbox inside the box

When you power on your PC, you can access a host of awesome gaming features. The previously standalone Xbox PC app from Microsoft is now preinstalled with Windows 11. With the Xbox app, all Windows 11 owners can sync their Xbox game IDs with their PCs, create groups and chat with friends, listen to music, edit avatars and track achievements. With Game Bar utility, you can capture funny screenshots and epic videos as well as monitor PC system performance. Beyond these extra features, the Xbox app offers some compelling reasons to make your PC your primary gaming platform.

With the Xbox app, you can browse a huge library of games to buy. Different categories make it easy to find what you’re looking for (but unfortunately no games for VR headsets). You can now download games to any folder you want, making it much easier to edit your favorite titles. The game selection in the Xbox app may not be as extensive as that of Steam, which remains by far the cheapest in PC games, but you can buy games for your PC as well as your console. Xbox. In fact, Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative allows a game purchase to work in both ecosystems. So if you buy Cuphead or Forza Horizon 5, you can play the titles on PC and console, with cross-platform achievements and cloud saves, at no additional cost. You don’t even have to pay for Xbox Live multiplayer on PC.

Xbox Game Pass

Game Pass is a game changer

Thanks to the Xbox app, all Windows 11 users have easy access to what is by far Microsoft’s most important new gaming platform: Xbox Game Pass. Other subscription services have tried to become the “Netflix for video games,” but Xbox Game Pass is the real deal. Starting at $ 10 per month, Xbox Game Pass lets you play a rotating library of great PC games. For $ 15 per month, you can also take advantage of the Game Pass on consoles. The library not only includes all major Microsoft games from Gears 5 to the upcoming Halo Infinite, but also many exciting recent third-party games, such as Dragon Ball FighterZ and The Forgotten City. Games don’t stay on the service forever, so play them while you have them.

Xbox Game Pass exemplifies Microsoft’s commitment to bringing games wherever you go. In order for the gaming audience to expand, we need to lower the barriers to entry. Can’t afford a premium Xbox Series X? Go for a cheaper Xbox Series S. Microsoft doesn’t care, as long as you get on board. Windows 11 is quite simply the newest and most convenient way to enter the ecosystem.

You don’t even need a powerful gaming PC to enjoy the benefits of Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass includes cloud streaming, so as long as your budget laptop (or latest generation Android or Xbox phone) has a strong enough internet connection, you can use it to play games. most graphically demanding games on the market. Apart from Game Pass, you can also use the Xbox app to stream games from your console to your PC if everything is on the same network.

Just note that this ecosystem is only as strong as its games. Microsoft has made recent, high-profile acquisitions (notably Bethesda), but rival companies Nintendo and Sony arguably still have more powerful games like The Legend of Zelda and God of War exclusive to their platforms. If you can’t get your hands on a scorching PlayStation 5, you can now also enjoy multiple older PlayStation 4s on PC, but not through the Xbox app.

Called at 11

Perhaps the most notable feature is the built-in Xbox app, but Windows 11 is gamer-friendly in other ways as well. Optional Auto HDR enhances colors and contrast to bring games to life. Faster load times are the big news for this console generation, and DirectStorage technology brings these advantages of the Xbox Velocity architecture to the PC. You can even expect better battery life and faster 6E Wi-Fi speeds.

Microsoft has long wanted to increase the gaming profile of Windows. Remember the Games for Windows Branding? Fortunately, they found a successful vision for the game. Xbox controllers only work when you plug them into your PC and don’t want a mouse. It may have started as a code name, but Microsoft eventually named its Windows voice assistant, Cortana, after a character in Halo.

Between the Xbox app, Game Pass, and other gamer-focused enhancements, Windows 11 continues this trend and represents the next step towards the inevitable convergence of PC and console gaming. So whether you launch Forza on your Xbox console or dive into Minecraft on your Xbox PC, Microsoft has you covered. The correct way to play games however is and where you want to play them.

Forza Horizon 5 unable to join friends or friends disappear in convoy

New updates are added at the bottom of this story …….

The original story (published 06 November 2021) follows:

Forza Horizon 5 is the latest installment in the long-running Forza franchise. Developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios and will release on November 9, 2021.

Set in a fictional version of Mexico, the racing game boasts the largest Forza map to date. Compared to Forza Horizon 4 which was based in the UK, the map is 50% larger.

It features several geographic landscapes such as an active volcano, verdant jungles, beaches, famous Mayan structures, and even the city of Guanajuato.

In addition, there is also a new game mode called Horizon Arcade. This mode features multiple multiplayer mini-games spread across the map while the EventLab toolkit allows users to create custom games.

Thanks to the open world aspect of the games, players can walk around and explore Mexico or team up with friends and play in multiplayer. That being said, those who had access to Forza Horizon 5 are now report that they can’t join their friends when trying to play multiplayer.

I can’t invite my friends through Steam because Steam doesn’t even show we’re playing. We somehow managed to join the convoy through the Xbox app, but everyone is the convoy leader at the same time, but no one can start a race because it says “only the leader of convoy can start a race “
(Source)

So the title explains my problem, what can I do with it? My friend uses FH5 on Microsoft Store and I am a Steam user, but when I try to create a column he configures it to infinity and when I click on “horizon life” a little circle loads for 2 seconds, then nothing. My connection to XBOX services is perfect, I checked.
(Source)

In addition, it seems that another problem is to prevent players to join a convoy with the game stuck on an infinite loading screen. Players say they are disappointed that they cannot enjoy the game with their friends.

My mate and I try to move freely together and we try the convoy and it gets stuck on the loading circle and if it works they don’t show up in the game. Does anyone have this problem?
(Source)

Hasn’t someone else been able to join the convoy of friends? It’s on the S series and I’m on the X series. We can invite each other but it loads and doesn’t connect.
(Source)

The number of reports suggests that the is on the developer’s side. While Microsoft has yet to recognize the problem, gamers are wondering when multiplayer will be fixed.

If and when the developers recognize the Forza Horizon 5 issue preventing players from joining friends, we’ll update this article.

Update 1 (November 08)

13:35 (IST): Forza Horizon Support has acknowledged the issue and has confirmed they are looking into it.

We are aware that some people in Forza Horizon 5 have had difficulty signing in to Horizon Life and have experienced disconnections. We think about it! (Source)

Update 2 (November 09)

2:04 p.m. (IST): It looks like the Forza team has rolled out fixes for the issue and also confirmed that more are in the works.

We have deployed a few fixes and more will be deployed in the next few days! We will send more updates when we have more information. (Source)

Update 3 (November 10)

12:43 (IST): The Forza team is still investigating several issues with the convoys, as outlined in the “Known issues‘tracker for the game.

According to the page, no Convoy bugs have been fixed yet. Therefore, players may have to wait a bit for the issues to be completely resolved.

Update 4 (November 11)

1:00 p.m. (IST): Connectivity bugs that could cause problems joining friends have been officially recognized by the Forza Horizon 5 team.

We expect a patch to be released later this week that will resolve several crash, wheel, and connection issues for # ForzaHorizon5. We will update as soon as it goes live!
Source

For now, all that remains is to wait for the patch to be deployed so as not to delay.

Update 5 (November 12)

12:00 (IST): If you get stuck on the Loading Circle when trying Convoy, you might want to check out this user-shared workaround:

I found a solution. get in your convoy and go to the festival and get out and it will work. I know it sounds silly but it works. (Source)

Update 6 (November 13)

11:26 am (IST): Forza support has delivered some bad news. According to a recent tweet, the team claims to have found an issue with the fix that will require further testing. The patch will therefore be posted online next week.

Unfortunately, we found an issue with the fix that will require additional testing. We have decided to postpone this fix until next week. (Source)

Update 7 (November 16)

3:40 p.m. (IST): In another follow-up, Forza Support has confirmed that it is still working on the fix and hopes to have more information to share later this week.

We are continuing to work on the # ForzaHorizon5 fix and hope to have more information to share later this week. As always, we greatly appreciate the patience, support and tickets submitted! (Source)

Update 8 (November 18)

4:45 p.m. (IST): A new fix is live for Forza Horizon 5 but it doesn’t fix the convoy bug that prevents players from playing with their friends.

Still can’t play with friends, convoys still not working after 2 weeks and an apparent patch? It is more than pathetic. (Source)

So you are more worried about exploits than players who can’t even get the game started ?? I can’t even play with my friends or follow someone in a lobby because they just disappeared, it’s been almost 2 weeks and you haven’t corrected anything, even the draw distance … (Source)

Update 9 (November 19)

13:13 (IST): According to the latest updates on the official Known issues page, the following Convoy bugs have been fixed:

Convoy – Joining a player after sending them an invitation causes the convoy leader to be absent
Convoy – Players are removed from their current stunt and placed in a new one if they join a convoy while they are already in a stunt

However, the bug or issue where friends would disappear from convoy is still listed in the known issues section.

Update 10 (November 20)

3:35 p.m. (IST): Forza Support has confirmed that it is still working to resolve known issues with Forza Horizon 5, possibly including the Convoy bugs. Unfortunately, there is no ETA for the next patch.

We hear from you and continue to work hard to resolve known issues for # ForzaHorizon5. Thank you for submitting these tickets which help us record and investigate issues. (Source)

New Microsoft Windows Xbox app fixes Windows Store, Windows 11, Windows 10 game installation issues

Windows 10 and Windows 11 users can test out the new Xbox app through the Xbox Insider Hub app in the store.

US tech giant Microsoft is now giving testers access to a new Xbox app for Windows that dramatically improves the game’s installation process from the Windows Store. According to The Verge, as reported earlier this month, the updated app allows PC gamers to install titles in any folder they choose with unlimited access to in-game files. an option that helps solve many issues related to installing titles from Xbox Game Pass for PC, and it should also mean that you can back up game files and restore them as needed.

Previously, Microsoft would force games to install in a Windows Apps folder at the root of a drive, and it was locked so that you couldn’t edit files or move them around freely.

The updated Xbox app now lets you choose a location, and if you have existing games installed, you can move them to secondary drives.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 users can try out the new Xbox app through the Xbox Insider Hub app in the store. You will need to join the “Windows Gaming” preview in the Xbox Insider Hub app to get the updated Xbox app.

Microsoft does, however, list a number of known issues for this first release, including issues launching some games on external drives and a number of games that are not yet supported.

Users still cannot add games downloaded from the Windows Store to Steam, as there appears to be a permission issue preventing this. The Xbox app is still previewing, which could be a bug that will be fixed before it’s widely available.

Either way, Windows Store game installs are finally looking more like Steam after years of glitches and bugs for PC users. If you’ve avoided Xbox Game Pass for PC due to Windows Store, this new Xbox app should take away some of the headaches associated with it.

Xbox chief assesses console maker relationship with struggling Activision

(Reuters) – Xbox chief Phil Spencer assesses his relationship with Activision Blizzard Inc, the maker of Microsoft-owned game consoles confirmed Thursday amid allegations of sexual misconduct and equal pay violations against the video game publisher.

Bloomberg first reported the news on Thursday, citing an email sent to employees.

Spencer told staff that the Xbox games management team was “disturbed and deeply troubled by the horrific events and actions” of Activision, the report notes.

“The leaders of Xbox and Microsoft are supporting our teams and supporting them in creating a safer environment for all,” Spencer said in a statement.

A spokesperson for Activision said the company is engaging with its partners.

Allegations against the company, known for its video game titles such as “Call of Duty” and “Diablo,” have resulted in launch delays and the exit of senior executives.

Earlier this week, employees staged a walkout following a report that the company’s CEO was aware of allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault earlier than expected.

New Microsoft Windows Xbox app fixes game installation issue

Tech giant Microsoft has started allowing testers access to a new Xbox app for Windows that dramatically improves the game’s installation process from the Windows Store.

According to The Verge, the updated app allows PC gamers to install titles in any folder of their choice with unlimited access to in-game files.

Previously, Microsoft would force games to install in a WindowsApps folder at the root of a drive, and it was locked so that no one could edit the files.

Updating the Xbox app will finally fix a big problem with installing games from Xbox Game Pass for PC, where gamers would experience issues with Microsoft Store, restricted WindowsApps folder, or just inability. to fully control where the games have been installed.

While Microsoft previously supported mods for some titles in the Microsoft Store, opening game folder access will now allow more games to support mods without players needing to activate it. in games.

The Microsoft Store has traditionally restricted access to where games are installed using Windows folder permissions that make it difficult to save games or move them around freely, according to the report.

Other PC game launchers like Steam or Battle.net allow players to save games, restore them, and review them.

Microsoft’s new Xbox app update includes an option to check and repair files, which will presumably be used to support game backup. There are also new options to navigate to where the files are installed, change the drive where games are installed, and select custom folders for installations.

My friend uses FH5 on the Microsoft Store and I am a Steam user, but when I try to create a column he configures it to infinity and when I click on “horizon life” a little circle loads for 2 seconds, then nothing.

When you install a game, Windows 10/11 automatically downloads it to the C: drive. What makes the situation worse is the fact that you cannot access the game folder because it is restricted. There are workarounds for accessing folders, but you won’t need these tips anytime soon.

The Xbox app will let you edit games

Microsoft claims that the download speeds of games delivered through the Xbox app have been improved, so you will be able to get games on your PC faster than before. According to the announcement, the installation experience will also be more stable. This is most likely related to the various errors that users encounter while trying to install games from the Xbox app.

Gamepass Ultimate users will be able to access Cloud Gaming on the Xbox PC app. This could be a game-changer and will be useful for gamers who don’t have access to a console or gaming PC.

Custom install folders, mods and more coming to Xbox App for PC

Microsoft is finally bringing some highly requested features to the Xbox app. Soon, users will be able to custom install their downloaded games from the Xbox PC app (with improved speeds), have the ability to edit them, view cloud libraries, and also make adjustments to the game. new Auto HDR feature in Windows 11.

These improvements to the app were showcased in a recent video presentation posted on the official Xbox YouTube channel.

A long time to come

The ability to install games in a custom location is a fairly standard feature in other storefront apps / launchers, but this will be a first for the Xbox PC app. In addition to selecting a custom folder, users will also be able to set a default folder to avoid having to select a location each time. The ability to select the drive on which a game is to be downloaded and installed is also available in the app. This was a real pet peeve for Microsoft Store users due to the fact that files would end up being encrypted and in very obscure locations. It made even simple operations like copy and paste difficult, if not impossible.

On that note, mod support is added per game. Games will have an indication on their page in the Xbox app that will indicate whether or not they support mods. It’s still not necessarily as open as Steam games, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Improvements in download speeds from the app will also increase steadily over time. It’s been a big complaint for a while now, especially when it comes to downloading larger titles like the recent one. Forza Horizon 5 which weighs just over 100 GB.

Regarding the ability to view cloud libraries, Microsoft mentioned that PC users will be able to see the console cloud-compatible titles that are available and play them from within the app. Cloud gaming is available as part of an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Auto HDR is a feature of Windows 11 that adds support for fake HDR to games that previously didn’t include it. For some older titles, this effect can be a bit overwhelming. So, there will also be a widget located in the Xbox Game Bar (activated using Win + G) that will allow users not only to turn the feature on / off, but also to adjust its intensity on the fly.

Xbox Insiders will be the first to access the feature for testing. Membership is possible by downloading and accessing the Xbox Insiders app. A full rollout of the new features to the public will take place over the next few months.

I am seriously considering leaving Steam for the Xbox app

I’m not the type to fear change. I will change my mobile operator whenever I can get a better deal, stop going to my favorite restaurant if a better one opens, and even change careers if it doesn’t work (don’t don’t get excited, it’s going pretty well). I drink Coke and Pepsi. The change has never bothered me – in fact, I often rejoice in it.

That being said, I never once considered ditching Steam for another platform. I’ve been using Steam since I was 13 and enjoy having all of my 477 games in a library. I haven’t always liked all of the decisions Valve made, and sales have really faded away, but I’ve stuck with Steam all these years because of the fantastic selection of games, cool features and, most importantly, because all my friends use it.

But I’ve been stuck in a dilemma for a while now, wondering if Steam should really be my default store. Between the growing library of free games on the Epic Game Store and the unrivaled selection on Game Pass, I started spending less and less time on Steam. At this point, when a new game comes out, I’m not as sure as I was before that I should buy it from Valve’s storefront.

This all came to a head with the release of Back 4 Blood, a Game Pass game that offered early access to anyone who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition. Eager to play, my friends and I debated where to buy it for a long time. At first, it seemed like a simple choice: if we want to play it early, we should buy the deluxe version on Steam, but if we’re willing to wait for launch, we can just play it “for free” on Game Pass. The more I thought about it, the more it became clear that there was no good reason to buy Back 4 Blood on Steam anyway.

Suppose I wait and play Back 4 Blood on Game Pass and save $ 60. The risk is that one day Back 4 Blood will be taken out of Game Pass or, God forbid, Game Pass will stop, so I will no longer have access to it. In that case, I could just buy Back 4 Blood on Steam or through the Xbox app and I wouldn’t have lost anything. In fact, the price will likely have come down by then.

Back 4 Blood Header
via Turtle Rock

But even though Back 4 Blood wasn’t on Game Pass at all, does it really make sense to buy it on Steam? Back 4 Blood has cross play, so it doesn’t matter where my friends are playing it. It’s also a Play Anywhere title, so when I buy it on the Xbox app, I can play it on my PC or Xbox. I probably won’t play B4B on an Xbox because I’m a KB + M player, but at least the option is there. If I buy it on Steam, I can only play it on PC. With Steam, I feel like I’m paying the same price for fewer features. Whether I get the Deluxe Edition to play early or wait for Game Pass, it’s obvious I’m playing it on the Xbox app anyway.

The problem is that not all games on Game Pass or the Xbox app are on par with the Steam version. I recently reviewed Lemnis Gate and found that the cross play options were extraordinarily limited. In these cases, it would be best to buy games on the same platform your friends are playing on, which is most likely Steam.

It may be too early to completely turn your back on Steam. The Xbox app only has a small fraction of the games on Steam, and cross-play isn’t always an option. Also, the Steam Deck could completely change my pace next year and make me want to buy all the games on Steam for the portable option. That said, I’m open to buying games like Back 4 Blood on Xbox when it can give me a better deal, and that’s something I didn’t expect after so many years of being in Steam. . It’s nice to have all my games in one place, but it’s even nicer to play anywhere or play for free.

xbox ios

Here’s good news for Xbox fans who mostly have iOS devices in their homes. The Xbox app, which you can find in the Apple Store, now has a redesigned icon.

We know it’s not much, basically nothing, but believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there who appreciate even the smallest changes.

New logo for the Xbox app

If you were to go to the Apple Store right now and search for the software mentioned above, it will come with a brand new icon.

Needless to say, this same design even if you already have the app, as it’s constantly updating anyway.

You have a lot of possibilities in the app and you can use it even for remote gaming, so you can pick up where you left off when you needed to turn off your console.

Another cool feature is the fact that you can constantly chat with your friends online, even when you are on the go. Plus, borders won’t mean anything to you, as group chat takes place on consoles and PCs.

Another new addition, introduced last year, will surely keep you logged in to the app. Yes, we are talking about the Library function, with which you can better manage games and apps.

Let’s not forget the Xbox Cloud Gaming app, which is also available for Apple devices, not just those running Windows.

Overall, there are plenty of reasons to stay connected to your Xbox even when you are not physically next to it.

And with this new icon overhaul, it will surely be much harder to resist such a feast for the eyes on your screen.

Xbox Live has connectivity issues (September 15)

Xbox Live is experiencing connectivity issues today, preventing players from connecting to the network, launching games, or initiating Cloud Gaming sessions.

Gamers were quick to start reporting the issue, and Xbox Support was quick to report that it was investigating the issue. The account was quick to say it was continuing its investigation and later said the the problem was resolved, but many gamers are still reporting issues connecting online.

“Xbox Live” started trending on Twitter this afternoon shortly after the issues first appeared, showing how many fans of Xbox games and titles were looking to play online today and have encountered the issue.

Problems like this appear periodically during any given week, but are resolved quickly in most cases. Extended downtime is a rarity, with probably hundreds of people working to fix anything that is disrupting gaming service.

Earlier this week, Microsoft added PC cloud streaming and new remote gaming options in a new update to the Xbox app, giving gamers even more flexibility on how, when and where they can play. to games, like the myriad of options in Xbox Game Pass.

Either way, today’s issues will most likely go away soon enough, as Xbox said it fixed the issue. Any other problem might require a system restart or just some good old patience.

Xbox app updates will let you stream console games to your PC

The pivot to cloud gaming revolves in part around the idea of universal fluidity for users. Companies have decided that selling the ability to play anywhere and with any device (whether it’s a console or not) is the next big thing. Even Walmart has tried to tackle it. It is therefore not surprising that the big names in video games are also launching.

In an announcement yesterday, Xbox introduced updates to its app that will allow people to remotely play console games on PCs (running Windows 10). The updates add support for:

  • Play Xbox Game Pass games from the cloud
  • Play games directly from your console with Xbox Remote Play

Whether or not you have an Xbox will not matter in accessing titles from the console. However, to stream games from the cloud to the Xbox app on a Windows 10 PC, you must be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member. It will certainly be an easier alternative than downloading them and then installing them on a given device.

While there was a beta version of Xbox Cloud Gaming for Game Pass members, it was done through a browser, which was a somewhat tedious process – open a webpage to go to the Xbox website and you connect. Now you can jump right into a game directly through the app.

What about Xbox owners? – For those who have a real Xbox, you have not been forgotten. Xbox Remote Play will allow console owners (Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or any generation of Xbox One) to play games they already own on a PC, as long as they have an internet connection. To put it simply, it is now possible to reproduce your gaming experience on another device, while becoming more mobile. Remote Play is accessible through the Xbox app and marks the first time the feature has been enabled on PC for Xbox Series X / S owners.

Ultimately, this update is another big step towards cloud gaming and comes right after Xbox Cloud Gaming upgraded to X-series hardware. Game companies want you to be able to play their products. on any device and as this flexibility continues, we wonder what will happen to the exclusives. As the consoles intertwine, their distinctions will also begin to fade. Does that mean console-specific games will be less important?

Maybe, but in the meantime, we’re just excited to be able to play Xbox titles on PCs, Android phones and tablets, and iPhones and iPads.

Why is Xbox Live crashing?

Xbox One Home Menu February 2020Source: Windows Central

Xbox Live is Microsoft’s cohesive online platform positioned at the heart of its gaming ambitions. The service manages tens of millions of users on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows PCs, as well as a pool of portable devices. And despite daily reliability, Xbox Live disconnects from time to time.

Microsoft rarely talks about technical details when Xbox Live goes down, often providing timely and moving solutions. While the cause is often unclear, Xbox Live can experience technical issues, high traffic during peak periods, or malicious Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks that plague Microsoft servers. Redmond has teams working around the clock to keep Xbox Live stable, and outages are natural over time.

That doesn’t make outages any less frustrating as recorded downtime appears to be on the rise in recent months. However, failures are often dealt with with quick turnaround times and pose no security threat.

How to use your Xbox One offline

Xbox One console logoSource: Windows Central

Xbox One is Microsoft’s latest family of consoles, with deep ties to Xbox Live and Microsoft services. Once these services go offline, the Xbox One loses a long list of daily operations beyond the social features of Xbox Live.

Xbox One games are generally playable when Xbox Live is down, but only when your console is marked as your “Home” device or a physical disk is in use. Multiplayer titles lose full server connectivity, as well as single player experiences with online restrictions. Downtime also kills media streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Spotify, even though the respective services are fully functional. OneGuide also enforces Xbox Live, making OTA TV guides inaccessible. If your games and applications cannot be accessed even through your home device, disconnect the console from the Internet.

The Xbox One retains some system-level functionality, such as game captures, screenshots, and achievement tracking. And all locally stored licenses grant access to your digital content. But compared to a connected Xbox One, going offline quickly gets boring.

To stay prepared for possible future outages, make sure your Xbox One is set as your home console, especially when using multiple devices. It ties all digital licenses to your local hardware, ensuring you’re ready to play when Xbox Live is down. However, games with an online requirement remain unplayable, given the need to use Xbox Live servers.

How to Use the Xbox App to Stream Games to Your Windows PC

In fact, there are two different ways to enjoy Xbox titles off-console: you can stream them directly from your home console using a network connection or you can use cloud gaming on supported devices. .

You must be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member to use Xbox Cloud Streaming, but no subscription is required for Remote Play. The feature is still rolling out to Windows 10 devices, so only 22 countries currently have access to it. Fortunately, you can use it not only with Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, but also with older Xbox One consoles.

There are a few things you’ll need for this to work, like a compatible controller and a decent network connection, but if you’ve checked those boxes, there’s nothing stopping you from connecting your old laptop to the service and streaming games to outside on a nice day, or relaxing in another room if someone wants to commandeer the family television.

Microsoft said alongside the announcement, “This is the first time we’ve enabled Xbox Remote Play on PC for Xbox Series X|S owners. We’ve also made additional upgrades from previous versions of Remote Play, such as general stability updates, allowing games to stream at 1080p at up to 60fps, and adding the ability to play select Xbox 360 and Xbox Original games, which was one of the most requested features.

Hardware and network requirements

According to Microsoft’s Remote Play webpage, you’ll need the following to use the service:

  • An Xbox Series X/S/One console (game streaming must be enabled in settings)
  • A Windows 10 PC with at least 2 GB of RAM and a 1.5 GHz or faster processor
  • Compatible Xbox controller (mouse, keyboard and touch are not currently supported for remote gaming)
  • The Xbox app for PC

  • An Internet connection of at least 7-10 Mbps. Wired is preferred, but wireless is also feasible for 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz with varying results

  • Tap the Consoles icon next to the search field
  • Select the console you want to connect to

Microsoft also advises the following for the best possible Remote Play experience:

  • If you close the app or do anything else on your phone after starting your Remote Play session, you won’t immediately lose your progress. After a while, your console will turn off and go to sleep. You can reconnect your session until the console shuts down
  • Only one person at a time can play remotely, even if others are configured to connect remotely or locally
  • Microsoft Store and in-game purchases and backward compatibility are disabled during remote play with Xbox mobile apps
  • Currently, external apps on your console like Edge and Hulu are blocked when using Remote Play

If you’re looking to access cloud gaming, open the Xbox app, click the “cloud gaming” button, and select one of the games available in your Xbox Game Pass library. However, you will need to be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member to access cloud gaming.

For games on your home console, you’ll find that your device mirrors your Xbox homepage when you’re linked to two devices so you can go straight back to your last played titles or head to your available library.

An official Xbox Wireless Controller is recommended, and we have a guide on how to connect your Xbox Series X controller to your PC, and for older hardware we also explain how to connect your Xbox One controller. You should also be able to use a wired controller as Windows 10 should have no problems recognizing official Microsoft hardware, but we can’t test it ourselves as we don’t have a wired controller handy.

Windows 10 PCs can now stream console games to the Xbox app

The Xbox app for Windows 10 PC will now allow gamers to stream console games to their computers, thanks to an update that went live on Tuesday.

Game streaming enabled by the update will allow Xbox Game Pass subscribers to play games that their PCs might otherwise not have the specs to handle. According to Microsoft, playing games directly from an Xbox console with Remote Play will provide the smoothest experience, while using the cloud will be slightly more demanding, but won’t require a download.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can currently stream games to browsers from their phones, tablets, and PCs, but the new option will allow streaming directly into the Windows 10 Xbox app. One thing that isn’t available yet is game streaming directly to Xbox Series X consoles, but Microsoft says that feature is on the way later this year.

The cloud option is limited to titles on Xbox Game Pass. Other games that gamers own can be streamed using remote play because the game is running on the console.

To stream games to the Xbox app from the cloud, gamers just need a compatible controller and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. Otherwise, the remote play option is available through the Xbox app on Windows 10 PCs.

Enable or disable the automatic start of the Xbox app in Windows 11/10

When installed on Windows, apps can register to launch as soon as you sign in to your account. While it works for the apps you need like screen capture tools, apps that can be launched later can get boring. It’s the same with the Xbox app, and this guide will show how you can enable or disable the Automatically starting the Xbox app under Windows 11/10.

If you are just playing on your Windows PC, leave it enabled as it is the focus of your game and should be available as soon as possible.

Turn on or turn off the Xbox app from starting automatically on a Windows PC

Similar to how you can turn off any app on startup, the Xbox app can also be deleted. You have the following options:

  1. Starting Windows
  2. Launch the app in the background
  3. Uncheck in the application launch settings

You do not need administrator permission and only assign individual account settings.

1]Starting Windows

Disable starting the Xbox Windows app service

The easiest way to disable any application on startup is to use Task Manager. Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys on the keyboard to launch the Task Manager. Please switch to the Startup tab, then find the Xbox app and right click on it. Choose to disable it if it is enabled. If you want to activate it, do the reverse.

2]Disable from the application launch settings

Xbox app launch settings

Open the Xbox app and click on your profile icon at the top right. Then click on Settings. Switch to the General section and clear the Automatically launch application on startup check box. Close the application. The next time you start your PC, you shouldn’t see Xbox loading automatically.

3]Launch the application in the background

If you want the application to launch but you do not want to appear in the foreground and remove the focus, you can uncheck the option Automatically launch application on startup but keep the option Launch application in background . It will silently launch the Xbox app and be ready when you need it.

How to stop the automatic start of applications?

  • Open Windows settings (Win + I)
  • Go to Applications> Startup
  • Locate the app and deactivate it

You will have to repeat this operation for each application that you do not want to launch. Also, once you disable programs you don’t need, it should help speed up your PC.

What kind of apps should I deactivate?

Apps that you don’t need right away can be removed from Startup, but that will also depend on your job. For example, if you use a screenshot tool, you might want it to be there if you use it most of the time. Apps like Spotify don’t need to be there the moment you log in. So choose wisely

Hope the post was easy to follow and you were able to turn the Xbox app on or off from autostart on Windows 11/10. It all depends on your choice. Those who play would love to have this app right away; otherwise, it can be disabled to save startup time.

No “Xbox App” for Nintendo Switch, says Phil Spencer

Xbox boss Phil Spencer wants to bring Xbox Game Pass and the entire Xbox ecosystem to more people than ever before, but the release of an “Xbox app” on a rival console won’t happen, at least. not yet. Asked directly by GamesRadar if there would be an “Xbox app” for Nintendo Switch, as people have theorized, Spencer said Microsoft is focusing more on the growth of Xbox on the web, PC and mobile for meet its ambitions of scale rather than putting the Xbox on Nintendo Switch or some other “closed” platform. In fact, Spencer pointed out that “these closed platforms don’t want something like Game Pass” anyway.

“You know, that’s the right question because people usually ask me to release an individual game or another. And what I’m saying is I want the full Xbox experience to be something that we offer. “, did he declare. “We don’t plan on bringing it to other types of closed platforms right now, mainly because those closed platforms don’t want something like Game Pass. There are a ton of platforms out there. -Open forms for us to grow: the web, PC, and mobile. So all of our focus, frankly, is on those platforms. “

Now playing: 5 things to know about the Halo Infinite multiplayer preview

While there might not be an Xbox app for Switch or PlayStation anytime soon, Spencer said he hopes to see even more connectivity between rival platforms through cross play.

“In order for us to be successful, I don’t think another company has to get smaller. I want the industry to continue to grow and accelerate its growth, and if you buy a Switch and want to play Minecraft, it just happens. find that I buy my kids a PlayStation… if they can’t play together it doesn’t help the game grow, in my mind, ”he said.“ This war can help a device win on another, but that doesn’t help the industry. I think focusing on the joy of the players, ease of play and accessibility, in the long run, is the right strategy. And I think the industry will go in that direction, because that’s what the players will be asking for. “

Another way Spencer hopes to see the game in general develop in the future is to break down traditional barriers that make it difficult to get started. Other entertainment media like movies, television, and books are generally easier and cheaper to use than games, observed Spencer. With some games, on the other hand, it’s usually difficult and expensive for newcomers to get started – and Spencer hopes to change that.

“We should all recognize that not everyone grew up with a controller in their hand,” he said. “I don’t envy movies, TV, or books, but I think that media has accessibility. It’s something we should think about as an industry. Let’s say I want to go play the next big game. on console So I have to go buy this console, I have to go plug it in, I don’t know how to use a controller – because I’ve never done this before – so I’m going to have to practice and learn.

“We think a lot about that accessibility point, and – not to bring it back to Game Pass – but part of it is financial, you know. These games cost $ 70. That’s a lot of money compared to these other forms of play. ‘art that we talk about. “

In an effort to make the Xbox more accessible to a wider audience – Microsoft is targeting billions of people, after all – Xbox has announced that it has partnered with TV makers to bring Xbox gaming options right into the games. televisions. Microsoft also recently announced that it will create Xbox-branded streaming sticks that people can plug into a TV to play the latest games. In another effort to expand Xbox, Microsoft is working with telecom providers on “new buying models” like Xbox All Access that allow users to get a console (with Game Pass) for a monthly price instead of paying. more expensive in advance. This is the model which has been popular and widespread for smartphones for many years.

To make all of this interesting and valuable from a content perspective, Microsoft also recently announced that it plans to release at least one new proprietary game every three months, not to mention the extensive third-party support on Xbox.

Xbox Everywhere: Phil Spencer wants an Xbox app on as many devices as possible

Something strange has happened to video game consoles over the past three years. The concepts of cloud streaming and cross-platform gaming dissolved the whole idea of the standalone machine with a disc player, its own online service, and exclusive titles. And while Sony has been a bit slow to embrace the upcoming concept of the video game metaverse, Microsoft has embraced it. At E3 2021, the focus was on Game Pass and the cross-platform possibilities of the Xbox app. Xbox is no longer a console, it’s a platform.

Phil Spencer, Director of Xbox, is keenly aware of the changes taking place in the industry, both in terms of technology and culture. Games aren’t what they used to be – and in some ways, this has been sped up by COVID-19. “One of the things I looked at at the start of the pandemic was the number of new friend connections made on Xbox Live,” he says. “It was literally tens of millions in the first month, and it just kept growing.”

“Part of that was just the increase in network activity as people played more games. But as an industry, we’ve also seen things like Among Us, which had been out for a few years. , gaining a lot of popularity. I think it was a reflection of the social capacity of the game. This is partly a generational shift, but also, I think, through the pandemic – games become a place of public dialogue, community and discussion. It increases the accountability for us as an industry for what we should stand for. “

Break down barriers

Xbox cloud games

One of the key announcements in the Xbox E3 2021 showcase was the expansion of the Xbox app to new platforms, including set-top boxes and smart TVs. For Spencer, it’s about how games are accepted as mainstream digital entertainment, alongside social media and streaming services like Netflix. The old barriers to entry are falling.

“I don’t mean this in a negative way,” he says, “but video games started out as a passionate, almost amateur-driven industry, and“ gamer ”was a label we wore. Now we have more. of three billion people who play video games, and when almost half the world is doing something, I don’t know how you distinguish between a gamer and a non-gamer. ” Spencer’s ambition is to make Xbox games accessible to everyone on the planet, no matter what technology they have – and that’s going to require rethinking what games and game consoles are.

“We should all recognize that not everyone grew up with a controller in their hand,” he says. We think a lot at that point of accessibility, and – not to bring it back to Game Pass – but part of it is financial, you know. These games cost $ 70. That’s a lot of money compared to these other art forms that tell us about. “

Forza Horizon 5

“Now we have over three billion people playing video games, and when almost half the world is doing something, I don’t know what you call a gamer or a non-gamer.”

Phil Spencer, Xbox Manager

So does that mean we’re going to see a switch to a mostly free model, as popularized by Battle Royale? “I think the diversity of business models in the gaming industry is a strength – and a creative force, not just a business force. If you have a good game, let it be a single player game with a start, middle and an ending; a game that has downloadable content to expand the chapters; a free game, an advertising driven game, I want all of these to be successful. As an industry, we have to embrace this diversity. We have to make sure we don’t fall for the thought, okay everything has to be a free battle royale game now. A creator has to use the business model that allows them to deliver the right experience for them. And as gamers, we need to be open to the fact that creative teams need to see the financial benefit of what they create, and that there isn’t one business model to rule them all. “

Spencer also seems genuinely interested in the idea of user-generated content, with players contributing to the games they enjoy. Creative options in Minecraft and Fortnite are obvious examples of this, but the challenge / extended circuit design mode promised in Forza Horizon 5 hints at a future where the ability to modify a gaming experience and then upload the new version to the cloud, will become commonplace. This is, after all, something the younger generation of gamers have learned to expect through the way they use social media.

“TikTok is about finding what someone else has done, whether it’s a piece of music they use or some kind of funny meme, and then people remix that with their own content. on top of it, and it becomes this almost self-sustaining thing. I think we should see that in video games. I think we should try to open up these tools, and also keep value for everyone in there. chain. We want creators to be able to monetize what they’re building and see the value of that. And I don’t think there should be a genre that it’s tied to. ”

Xbox wants to end the console war

Xbox cloud games

Interestingly, throughout our conversation, Spencer doesn’t talk about competing with other consoles. Although he got a sneakily digging into Sony’s PlayStation strategy during E3, its goal is clearly to convert non-gamers into gamers rather than shifting the current user base from one machine to another. When I ask questions, for example, about the lack of epic, standalone single-player games on Xbox, he knows right away what I’m referring to: Sony’s recent success with titles like Spider-Man and The Last of Us 2. , and it doesn’t.

“Our strategy is not to do like someone else,” he says. “I sometimes get a push of” where is your version of this or that [game]? ‘. I’ve been in this industry for a long time, I have a lot of respect for creators on all platforms, and I know a lot, a lot. But it’s good if we do something different from what other platforms do. We’re not just looking to create a green version of someone else’s blue or red platform. This is not the example of creativity that I want to see in the gaming industry. “

But what about those rumors that one of the platforms Microsoft wants to put their Xbox app on is the Nintendo Switch. “You know, evolution always takes time,” he says. “There are different strengths that different companies have built through hard work, and some of these changes can be seen as disruptive. And they will have their own pace and pace of activity to which they wish to make these changes. “

Minecraft Download

“We’re not just looking to create a green version of someone else’s blue or red platform.”

Phil Spencer, Xbox Manager

“In order for us to be successful, I don’t think another company has to get smaller. I want the industry to continue to grow and accelerate its growth, and if you buy a Switch and want to play Minecraft, it just happens. find that I buy my kids a PlayStation… if they can’t play together it doesn’t help the game grow, in my mind. This war might help one device win over another device, but it doesn’t not helping the industry. I think focusing on the player the joy, ease of play and accessibility, in the long run, is the right strategy. And I think the industry will go in that direction, because it is what players will ask. “

So the Xbox app on Switch then, I ask for more. “You know, that’s the right question because people usually ask me to release an individual game or another. And what I’m saying is I want the full Xbox experience to be something that we deliver. . We have no plans to bring it to any other kind of closed platforms right now, mainly because those closed platforms don’t want something like Game Pass. There are a ton of platforms. -open forms to develop ourselves: the web, the PC and the mobile. So all of our focus, frankly, is on those platforms. “

He later says he fully understands why this is the case (“It’s not a blow to anyone who has a system that works for them. I can see why the Game Pass disruption isn’t not something they want right now. “) But the Xbox concept existing on other consoles isn’t a complete dead end, at least not in Spencer’s vision. “At the end of the day,” he says with a smile, “when we say we want everyone to be able to play on Xbox, we really mean that if we can bring that full experience to a device that gamers want, we are totally open to these discussions. “

Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 are slated to launch on Xbox Series X, PC, and Game Pass later this year. In the meantime, why not consult the best Xbox Series X games to keep you busy.
