Among us, the characters are sitting around a TV playing PS5.

Picture: Inner laziness

Science fiction mystery muder Among us saw its popularity rise again last month after arriving on Xbox and PlayStation. On PS4 and PS5 in particular, it was the most downloaded game of December, beating Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Call of Duty: The Vanguard for the first place. Nothing about that.

The 2018 game about killing your friends then voting innocent gamers on the spaceship airlock hit PS4, PS5 and Game Pass with cross-play December 14. That was long after it arrived on Nintendo Switch, and even more so since it belatedly became a mega-hit on PC and mobile during the first year of covid-19. Of course, the pandemic is still here and, thanks to the Omicron variant, it is causing further spikes in infection rates. So maybe it was the perfect time after all, as a new group of players were staying inside.

here are the full list of top downloads for the last month:

PS4

  1. Among us
  2. Call of Duty: The Vanguard
  3. GTA V
  4. crazy 22
  5. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  6. Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition
  7. NBA 2K22
  8. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach
  9. Minecraft
  10. FIFA 22

PS5

  1. Among us
  2. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  3. Call of Duty: The Vanguard
  4. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach
  5. NBA 2K22
  6. crazy 22
  7. Battlefield 2042
  8. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  9. Kena: Bridge of Spirits
  10. It takes two

It should be noted that Among Us is only $ 5, while the rest of these games cost a lot, a lot more. Still, it’s the only indie game in the top five on PS4, and one of only two on either full list.

The lists are also good reminders of the reality of the top-selling games on PS4 and PS5: third-party games. With the exception of the 2020s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, many of the best downloads are the usual suspects. While this is hardly shocking, it’s an interesting background to keep in mind the next time the internet rolls out its pitchforks and torches to compare the sales of the latest proprietary Sony game. with Days Gone, which seems destined to happen at least every few months at this point.
