A few Xbox entertainment apps are getting upgrades this week, including Apple TV. You can watch shows and movies with richer visuals if you have a Dolby Vision compatible display and an Xbox Series X / S.

If you turn on Dolby Vision on both devices (go to Settings, then General, TV & Display Options, and Video Modes to do it on Xbox) and you have an Apple TV + subscription, you can watch Ted lasso and Mythic Quest with a wider color gamut and deeper blacks. Xbox Live Down – LATEST Microsoft Server Status as Xbox One, Series X Unable to Connect | Games | Entertainment

Xbox Live servers are currently down, preventing Xbox One and Xbox Series X owners from playing games online.

The Xbox Live server status is making for dark reading for fans, who have complained of not being able to connect to Xbox online services.

Independent website Down Detector has received thousands of reports that Microsoft’s Xbox Live service is not working.

The outage tracker monitors social mentions around certain topics to detect when services go down across the globe.

Down Detector’s outage map shows that Xbox Live issues are affecting users in the UK and Europe.

Xbox Support has yet to issue a statement, so it’s unclear when the issue will be resolved.

Likewise, there is no mention of offline server issues and account issues on the Xbox Live status page.

According to the official Xbox website, all services are working normally.

This includes accounts and profile, online multiplayer, cloud gaming, and even Xbox cloud and mobile services.

Needless to say, Xbox Live users have spoken out about the issues on social media, complaining about not being able to access online multiplayer.

One fan writes, “Since Xbox Live seems to be down, I have no game time today. Boooo, Jeer.”

Another posted the following on Twitter: “Xbox Live is down for me, can’t log into my account.”

Finally, a fan writes, “@XboxSupport is having issues connecting to Xbox live. Everything was fine earlier. I reset my router and everything.

“Are the servers down? I keep getting a message that I can’t be connected right now.”

Express Online will continue to update this article with any new developments on the server front.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers can play two Triple-A games for free this weekend

Xbox is adding two games to its Free Play Days promotion, allowing Xbox Live Gold subscribers to play them at no additional cost this weekend.

Over the years, Microsoft has offered Xbox live Gold subscribers have the opportunity to experience several high-profile games through its Free Play Days promotion, with the last few months alone offering titles such as Civilization 6, Tekken 7, and NBA 2K21. Today, Xbox announced that two new games will be free this weekend, with players getting access to a revered triple-A exclusive and the most recent iteration of a popular racing series.

The games offered are Gears 5 and F1 2020, with both titles available for download for those who have access to Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now. They’ll be free until May 23 at 11:59 a.m. PT and come with a sale, with Gears 5 standard copy being reduced to $ 16 and F1 2020 standard copy drop at $ 15.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

RELATED: Microsoft makes it easier to buy Xbox Series X and S consoles

As for what players can expect from the two games, Gears 5 quickly became one of Xbox One’s most impactful experiences when it launched in 2019, offering a meaty campaign and an active multiplayer scene. The story follows the events of the previous four Weaponry of war titles, with Gears of War 4 Kait Diaz takes the reins as she delves into her mysterious past. The sequel takes players to never-before-seen areas of the Gears universe, implementing a new game design in a semi-open world and numerous hordes of locusts to be decimated.

During this time, F1 2020 the appearance couldn’t have come at a better time, allowing players interested in the recent announcement of F1 2021 to understand what makes the annual motorsport franchise tick. As always for Codemasters’ F1 tie-ins, the game comes with real-world tracks, drivers and teams, allowing players to jump into a career mode or race against their friends online. Last year’s entry added an array of new features to the game, including extra races and accessibility options, so newcomers to the series can get stuck without worrying too much about getting lost.

If neither of the two games appeal, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also receive several new additions today, including Maneater, The Wild at Heart, and Fishing: carp and coarse fishing. There are even more games slated to launch on the service over the next week, including Exiled conan and EA’s new team-focused multiplayer game, City KO. The latter will arrive on Game Pass when it launches on May 25, bringing the chaotic action of the new version to subscribers at no additional cost. PC Game Pass players can also look forward to new games very soon, including Slime Rancher, SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest, and Secret neighbor.

Epic Games and Xbox discussed dropping Xbox Live Gold requirement for F2P games last year, emails reveal

Epic Games chief honcho Tim Sweeney asked Xbox boss Phil Spencer to drop Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold requirement for free games last summer.

The exchange is one of several revealing private emails sent between senior company officials made public as part of the ongoing Apple vs. Epic Games lawsuit.

Last August, Sweeney emailed Spencer suggesting that Microsoft remove the Xbox Live Gold F2P firewall and time it alongside the launch of the Marvel season of Fortnite and the permanent lowering of V- Bucks.

Eurogamer Newscast: Are ‘metaverse economies’ the future of video games?

“Hi Phil,” Sweeney wrote. “A long time ago, we talked optimistically about the possibility of subscription-free multiplayer on Xbox. (PlayStation requires subscriptions for multiplayer but exempts free games, including Fortnite.)

“If this happens, please consider scheduling the program to support the launch of Fortnite Season 14 on 8/27. This launch will follow the confidential 20% Fortnite Mega Drop price drop that is coming mid -August and will be our biggest and best season of Fortnite thanks to a huge collaboration with Disney/Marvel.

“Epic has some plans for August that will provide an amazing opportunity to highlight the value proposition of consoles and PCs, unlike mobile platforms, and onboard new console users. Although I can’t share details with a third party at this point, I assure you from Epic that our efforts will be positive and supportive of Microsoft, Xbox, and Windows.

“I realize this is incomplete information and you have a large ship that is running slowly, so the specific request if: please keep this possibility in mind for 8/27 and expect events throughout August draw attention to the specific opportunity. Tim.”

Spencer’s response was that Microsoft was “committed to pushing” on this, and that “we’ll get there” by removing the Xbox Live Gold requirement for F2P games – which, of course, the company eventually did more. early this year as part of its U-enable a Gold Membership price hike.

Interestingly, Spencer also noted that he hasn’t “given up” on getting xCloud on other consoles – something that has yet to materialize, even as Microsoft rolls out its browser-based solution to work. on PCs and iPhones.

“Totally understood! Sweeney responded back. “I guess there’s a lot going on at Microsoft these days. [emoji] Either way, you’ll enjoy the next fireworks display. Tim.”

Other emails released as part of the Apple vs. Epic Games trial include other fun asides.

This includes a seemingly random message from Sweeney to Apple boss Tim Cook in 2015, long before the two companies were at loggerheads, and also before the statospheric success of Fortnite, where Sweeney offered unprovoked ideas for the game. ‘iOS App Store.

“Hi Tim, you should all consider separating iOS App Store curation from compliance review and app distribution,” the email begins. If Cook responded, it’s not in the court documents. Instead, Cook can be seen emailing a few Apple executives confused about Sweeney’s identity.

“Is that the guy who was at one of our rehearsals?” Cook wrote. Ouch.

Finally, there’s also a 2019 email from Sweeney to Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot offering an apology for Epic’s failed launch of the Uplay integration on the Epic Games store.

“Dear Yves,” Sweeney wrote. “I am writing to apologize for the shortcomings in the implementation of our Epic Games store and our Uplay integration.

“In the last 48 hours, the rate of fraudulent transactions on The Division 2 has exceeded 70% and was approaching 90%. Sophisticated hackers were creating Epic accounts, buying Ubisoft games with stolen credit cards, then reselling linked Uplay accounts faster than us. disabling linked Uplay purchases for fraud.

“Cheat rates for other Epic game store titles are below 2% and Fortnite is below 1%. So 70% fraud was an extraordinary situation.”

Sweeney informed Guillemot that Ubisoft games had been made unavailable for purchase while the issue was resolved, but that would likely take at least two weeks. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience,” he signed.

The ongoing legal proceedings between Epic and Apple also revealed how much Epic pays for free games on its store and detailed snippets of canceled/postponed upcoming Fortnite content – including a potential crossover with Metroid and a possible survival simulator mode at to come.

Xbox Live Gold memberships are finally on sale

Advertiser Disclosure: At Slickdeals, we work hard to find the best deals. Some products in our items are from partners who may offer compensation to us, but that does not change our opinions.

Until May 7, Newegg has 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscriptions for $ 49.99, or $ 10 off MSRP. To access all the savings enter promo code EMCEWEX36 at checkout.

Check the offer at Newegg

While $ 10 off might not seem like much, Xbox Live Gold deals have been scarce in recent years, likely due to the popularity of Game Pass Ultimate. We saw the price drop to just under $ 45, but this deal required a VPN and some underhand ingenuity, so it’s great to see a simpler rebate offer.

Bonus, Microsoft is currently running a promotion that allows you to upgrade from Gold to Game Pass Ultimate for $ 1. Any Xbox Live Gold account that does not currently have a Game Pass is eligible, and you can upgrade to up to three years of Xbox Live Gold with this offer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Xbox Live Gold

How much does Xbox Live Gold cost?

Xbox Live Gold prices start at $ 9.99 / month for monthly subscriptions, but there are significant discounts for users who prepay for longer subscriptions.

A 3-month subscription costs $ 24.99, which is roughly 16% off the monthly payment price. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, you can get a year of Xbox Live Gold for $ 59.99 if you pay up front. This is a whopping 50% discount from the typical monthly payment option.

What do you get with Xbox Live Gold?

Xbox Live Gold gives you full access to the Xbox online experience. With Gold, you’ll be able to play online multiplayer games with other Xbox Live Gold members (and PC players for some titles). Gold also gives you access to cloud backup storage (allowing you to play a single backup file on multiple consoles).

When it comes to game discounts, Gold members get access to all kinds of exclusive offers in the Xbox Store. This includes discounts of up to 50% on games (Gold members often save an additional 10% off the sale price) and access to exclusive sales at various times of the year.

Finally, Gold members can take advantage of Games with Gold, a program that gives users two free Xbox 360 games and two free Xbox One games each month.

What are games with gold?

If you are already an Xbox Live Gold member, you should definitely participate in the Games for Gold program. Each month, Xbox releases four games (two Xbox 360 titles and two Xbox One titles) that Xbox Live Gold members can download for free.

While you need to keep a Gold membership to access Xbox One games, it’s a well-kept secret that you can keep all 360 games with Gold titles forever, even if you switch back to the free version of Xbox Live.

What is the difference between Xbox Live Silver and Gold?

Formerly known as Xbox Live Silver, the free service is now simply called Xbox Live, and it’s the most basic level of Xbox Live membership. Although free, Xbox Live has far fewer features than Xbox Live Gold.

Xbox Live lets you access some of the online features of Xbox consoles. With Xbox Live, you can go to the Xbox Store to buy and download games, apps, movies, TV shows, music, and more. Xbox Live also lets you play media that you’ve purchased online from the Xbox Store.

Fortunately, you can stream media from Netflix, Hulu, and similar services with a free Xbox Live account. And although you technically need Xbox Live Gold to to create New Cloud Backups, you can access Xbox 360 backups that you’ve already uploaded to the cloud at any time.

Can you play online without Xbox Live Gold?

Unfortunately, an Xbox Live Gold membership is required to participate in the vast majority of multiplayer games. Some games require you to have an Xbox Live Gold membership to play them even if you are not taking advantage of the multiplayer features. Xbox Live Gold is pretty much a necessity if you’re an Xbox enthusiast, but there are always ways to save on subscriptions.

How to get Xbox Live Gold for free

Xbox Live Gold isn’t free, but you can get an occasional free trial if you look in the right places. Some games include free trial subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold with purchase, although these trials rarely exceed two weeks. Free Xbox Live Gold subscriptions are also often included with Xbox console packs, but buying a brand new Xbox just for the free trial subscription is probably not the best use of your money.

Another way to get a (technical) discount on Xbox Live Gold is to wait for a sale to subscribe. Since Gold members often save an additional 10% off the sale price, the cost of a 30-day Gold membership can quickly become negligible. If you are planning to buy games worth over $ 100, you can basically get a free month of gold and enjoy all of the benefits listed above for the next 30 days.

Microsoft is aware of this savings strategy and often offers Gold memberships for $ 1 in the weeks leading up to big business events like Black Friday. In these cases, buying literally any game on sale will likely cover the cost of your Gold membership.

If you’re not ready to get an Xbox Live Gold membership today, be sure to set up an Transaction alert so you don’t miss it the next time subscriptions go on sale.

Although it appears the option has since been removed

I don’t know how I let a game come like Psychonauts 2 peeking over me, but it sort of does – assuming it comes out soon, I mean. The official final say on launch day is still “this year,” but after a recent Microsoft Store listing (with some fun details) and the new ability to preload the game from the Xbox app (it is 27 GB), the sequel seems imminent. It’s super exciting!

For what it’s worth, the app’s preload feature has since been removed. Was it all a mistake? Either way, there are a lot of eyes on the game this week and I am now among them.

With all this pent-up energy swirling around, Double Fine also shared a few new screenshots. They look good to me, just like the screens on the store page, except for that tooth tunnel. Eesh.

Maybe I’m reading too deep into these things, but after such a long build-up behind the scenes, I feel like it’s almost time to Psychonauts 2. And when we get that next big reveal – June is here before we know it, which also means E3 – I bet it won’t be much longer until we find Raz.

Back to this store page: The listing reiterates support for Xbox Play Anywhere, and it also shows an Optimized for Xbox Series X / S badge with a chip for 4K Ultra HD support. Crank it.

I understand some fans are nervous about the sequel given how well the original game resonated. I especially think how awesome it will be to have another creative 3D platformer from this studio. Between Psychonauts 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift apart, I expect a lot of fun this year.

Xbox chief discussed making Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass free for other consoles in emails to Epic’s Tim Sweeney

Source: Windows Central

What would you like to know

  • Epic is currently fighting Apple in court.
  • Many documents presented as evidence are disclosed to the public.
  • Some information reveals emails between Phil Spencer of Xbox and Epic CEO Tim Sweeney discussing Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for other consoles.

A legal battle is raging between Epic Games and Apple right now, especially over how Apple’s App Store policies are monopolistic and anti-competitive. Epic Games’ landmark case against Apple is being watched by the entire gaming industry right now, resulting from a disagreement over how Apple is reducing all purchases made through its storefront, especially with Fortnite d ‘Epic Games.

Since court battles are in the public domain, much of the evidence submitted in this court case has reached the public sphere, giving us a unique insight into the inner workings and discussions between large corporations.

The edge recently got his hands on some emails from the court case, particularly in reference to Xbox Live Gold and its free multiplayer paywall, which is currently being phased out.

In the emails, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, notes that Xbox leader Phil Spencer spoke “optimistically” about removing the paywall for Xbox Live Gold, although it appears to be referring to to Microsoft which abandons the paywall to play for free. games, like Fortnite. Epic’s Sweeney had hoped to align Microsoft’s removal of the free pay wall with a big reveal from Fortnite, which also coincided with the start of the big court case with Apple, and Fortnite’s subsequent removal from iOS.

Additionally, Phil Spencer also noted that they “haven’t given up” on getting Xbox Game Pass (xCloud) cloud streaming on other consoles, i.e. like the Nintendo Switch. Rumors have been circulating for some time that Nintendo might allow some form of Xbox Game Pass on its popular handheld consoles, although the business case may be difficult for Nintendo to reconcile. If someone is using their Switch to play Xbox games, they aren’t necessarily spending their money on Nintendo games. It is by no means outside the realm of the possible, however, if there is a way to create a win-win on both sides.

I have discussed in the past my belief that Xbox Live Gold’s multiplayer paywall will eventually become free, given that it is a relic of the past and incongruous to their cross-play mission. Microsoft’s marketing is also moving further and further away from “Xbox Live Gold” as a whole. Everything is now Xbox Game Pass, which adds credence to the idea that this vestigial aspect of the Xbox network is finally being removed. The emails reveal that, at the very least, this remains a topic of discussion within Microsoft’s management team.

The reality is that modern consoles are subsidized by these types of subscription services, which is why they remain relatively cheap. Apple doubles the fees with high developer fees, with high margins on its hardware for consumers as well. Epic is essentially fighting supply and demand, however – consumers are willing to pay the price for an iPhone, and the developers appear to be (reluctantly) willing to pay the store’s discount fees as well. It remains to be seen who emerges as the victor in the legal battle, but it will certainly produce a lot of juicy confidential documents to read.

Xbox Live Arcade: the forerunner of Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass contains over 200 games and yet I never feel lost. The service offers multiple categories for different genres and indies, which helps me find exactly what I’m looking for. The service also offers great marketing for communicating new things and things that are already available. Xbox Sarah Bond spoke about Xbox Game Pass on Xcast, Kinda funny dedicated Xbox show, and explained how it helps gamers and publishers. This is one of the best parts of the service. It’s nice to have access to so many games, but the opportunity to explore games that I might not otherwise know is worth the price of entry on its own. It’s not necessarily new to Microsoft either; society has driven discoverability, conservation, creativity, and smaller titles on the Xbox Live Arcade service for the Xbox 360.

The Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005. This was technically a relaunch of the program since it existed in a smaller and more limited form on Microsoft’s first Xbox console. This iteration of Xbox Live Arcade featured mostly older titles, like Glove and Mrs. Pac Man, but there were a few more recent titles among the 27 games, like Bejeweled and Zuma. The Xbox 360 iteration of the service has focused much more on newer and unique titles, while also including older games.

The Xbox 360 hard drive comes with Hexic HD, which gave users a taste of what was possible with smaller experiences. Microsoft’s push to create another channel in the global conversation has been brilliant. Hexic HD and Castle crashers were not Halo 3 in litter or size, but they didn’t need to be either. Players have already had experiences like Halo 3 and Weaponry of war. The AAA games worked very well. Consumers could enjoy more than one type of game. Smaller games also cost less than larger AAA titles; Microsoft had a maximum price of $ 20 for XBLA titles, so people felt more secure to try something different. They made it easier to find these different and often smaller titles, while showing players that the lower price often came with unique gameplay and no compromises on quality.

There was no reason that people couldn’t enjoy Grand Theft Auto IV and Castle crashers. The prizes played out well together, and having something different to play alongside a bigger game combined really well. Microsoft’s push for new, different, and cheaper games rocked the industry, showing both publishers and consumers that games can be anything and everything. The ideas of the developers were the only limit in terms of what was possible. If you made it, they could sell it to people who would play it.

Super Meat Boy

Microsoft’s XBLA The summer of the arcades the promotion went even further to tell people about the XBLA games. They showcased and highlighted new and different experiences, while providing space for further iterations and remakes. Super Meat Boy, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, ‘Splosion Man, TMNT: The turtles in time reconstituted (TEAR), Shade complex, Braid, Fez, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Potholing, and Limbo These are just a few of the countless imaginative and wonderful titles that have managed to shine in the XBLA Summer of Arcade spotlight. Microsoft didn’t just sell these titles. They helped publishers find audiences while also helping audiences find games they didn’t know they would like.

They also pushed participation in the purchase of Summer of Arcade titles with sweepstakes and giveaways. It changed gaming forever and showed everyone that video games don’t need to push the boundaries of technology and checkbook limits for big studios. It could also be games that test the possibilities of creativity. Xbox Live Arcade has been retired with the Xbox One, but that’s not because Microsoft has abandoned games outside of the AAA and AA space. It was because they didn’t think they had to be in different sections of the store. They had proven that they could take audiences to headlines without needing to put them in their own section of the store. They knew they could put them alongside other games because they were just as important and deserved the digital storage space.

Xbox Don Mattrick

The launch of the Xbox One was, uh, definitely something that happened. I’m sure we all wish we could forget about the 2014-2016 Xbox, Microsoft included, but the Xbox has started to move in the right direction thanks to a strong (but correct) negative reception of the ‘always online’ requirements, the Forced Kinect integration and other Xbox nonsense pushed with former employees Don Mattrick and Marc Whitten at the helm of the ship. The Phil Spencer’s era has given Microsoft back a positive influence in the industry, and backward compatibility and Xbox Game Pass have been at the forefront of this pro-consumer storm.

Xbox Game Pass continued what Xbox Live Arcade began. The service was launched on June 1, 2017 and started with the idea of bringing a catalog to players who have subscribed to it. Xbox Game Pass is a growing and evolving library of games selected by Microsoft. The service started out small and consisted mostly of indie titles and titles released by Microsoft, but over the years it has grown into a place where publishers happily put their games. AAA titles have even launched on Xbox Game Pass. Riders and developed by PlayStation MLB The Show 21 both launched as something gamers could buy on Xbox and other platforms or just play on Xbox Game Pass. Square Enix Riders also spent a lot of time on top of the best-selling Xbox games in the storefront. Xbox Game Pass is good for sales because people are happy to buy things they like, but they don’t always know what to try or take a chance. Xbox Game Pass was also a success story for small independent titles, which gives them a place on the stage that consumers can see in an otherwise crowded stream of good games. Xbox Game Pass is good for gaming, just like Xbox Live Arcade was back in the days of the 360.

Without beef
Unique experiences like Without beef were made possible by Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Game Pass.

It’s hard to imagine a version of myself that hasn’t discovered Super Meat Boy, Potholing, Fez, Where Castle crashers. They are one of my favorite games. I don’t think I would have known about them if Xbox hadn’t reported them to me. Independent games are among the my absolute favorite tracks today and has been for years. Guitar Hero, Halo, X-Men Legends, Weaponry of war, Fable, resident Evil, and Pokemon occupied most of my video game time when the Xbox 360 was launched. They’re all great games, but expanding my awareness of everything around me has shown me so many different types of games that I’ve come to love too. I didn’t know about games outside of AAA experiences before XBLA. I am grateful that Microsoft is in the industry and has advanced the discovery, development and overall experience of games in a positive way and with a different, creative and interesting focus. Despite the company’s intermittent shortcomings, Xbox has made video games better and shown developers, publishers, and gamers that different games can exist, and that there is an audience for everything.
