Xbox app on Windows 10 Mobile hints at console game streaming feature

Found in both Xbox (beta) and regular Xbox apps, when viewing game information about titles you own in the app and when signed into your console, a mysterious “Play from Console” option is present with the broadcast logo.

This doesn’t actually work at the moment, and we’ve verified this ourselves. You will see the casting bar appear at the top of the screen, but nothing else happens. There will be an error with some sort of message that you can’t do it right now.

Streaming to Windows 10 Mobile should be made easier by Build’s recent announcement that phones will be able to use the Xbox One controller. It would also be another cool feature to add to the mobile OS, and surely a number of people are interested.

Microsoft wouldn’t be the first to accomplish this, of course, with Sony already allowing buyers of its Xperia phones and tablets to stream PS4 games to their mobile devices and play them with the DualShock 4 controller. As with Xbox to PC streaming, a number of variables affect the experience.

There is also no guarantee that it is not a bug. The Xbox app is universal for PC and phone and so something could have gone wrong somewhere. But with E3 fast approaching, add this to the list of things we hope Phil Spencer will be “happy to announce”.
